Ever since I've professed my new found love for diamonds and all things sparkly, my friends and family have started giving me presents of jewelry but the problem is that most of them have a taste that is so different than mine. How to tell them?

I would say that honesty is always the best policy, especially with those people who will love and care about you no matter what. Just tell them the truth.

I would rather someone actually liked and wanted what I bought them rather than put it in a drawer and never wear them. Maybe you could broach the subject by saying how much you appreciate all the thought that's gone into the gift, but unfortunately it doesn't go with what you already have, so would they mind/be upset if you returned it and exchanged it for something you know you'd get a lot of use from?
