So, after months of deliverating, we finally have the dresses picked out for maid of honor and bridesmaid.

Now, one of my bridesmaids is pregnant. What did all of you do about the dresses when one girl was pregnant. She literally contacted me about a half hour before I placed the order for her. Unfortunately, the other girls have already placed their orders.

I am not sure that the dress comes in maternity (it doesnt say it does). what do most people do in this situation. buy the dress in a larger size and alter it? look for a new dress? She will be about 5 months preg. when the wedding comes around.

Any advice?

Same color, different dress?

There may be a maternity option available from the designer that would coordinate, or she may be able to wear an empire waist. I wouldn''t expect to be able to alter it to fit though as if it doesn''t work, that''s a huge expense. I guess it would depend on the style you chose. What does the dress look like?

I was MOH for a wedding with a bridesmaid who was 8.5 months preggo and huuuuuge. She just got a different dress style in a matching colour that had a maternity option. Looked fabulous!

Depending on the dress style, the bridal shop can order extra fabric and place some panels in so that she has belly room.

I have her right now looking at different styles that she can get in a shiny brown material.

I read some other posts. a black dress would be easy to find but our wedding party (including men) are all in dark chocolate brown lol.

So, that means she is kind of at the mercy of bridal shops for an actual bridesmaids dress. and with the wedding in about 3.5 months, we are going to pick out something fairly quickly.

I would post a pic of the dress, however, it is a two peice separate that you have to create and so I cant just send a link or anything to it.

One of my bms will be about 7.5 months pregnant. David''s bridal actually had a belly for her to strap on to estimate her size, so she ordered the dress big enough for her to wear over that belly. We''re less than 2 weeks away, and she said it had to be taken in a bit in the bust and the straps, but it fit well over her belly, so now we''re just hoping she doesn''t change size too much in the next 2 weeks.

Can you post a pic of the dress your other girls are wearing? Is it possible to accomodate a big belly, or is the style too tight to begin with?

Has she had a baby before? Some women don''t start showing much at all until around then! My best friend hardly showed much at all until her 6th month. Her sister was her MOH and was pregnant for the wedding. Her sister is normally a 6/8 and ordered a 12 for the wedding and it was perfect! I would bet you could still have her in the same dress and just get a few sizes larger, unless she is already a bit bigger and it can''t happen.

Good luck!

Or, she could be like my friend who had to buy a new dress to attend my wedding at 2.5 mo along with her first. She is quite petite/thin normally, and discovered in her first trimester that all her dresses were quite fitted along her torso such that the few pounds she had added to her belly and bust at that point put her over the edge! A larger/looser normal dress worked fine then, but by five months she was a completely different shape and only fit in maternity clothes or sweats.

So it depends on the person and the pregnancy.

Which designer/fabric had you selected? I would just try to get something in the same fabric/length but more suited to pregnant shape (empire waist, etc.) Normally two-pieces woln''t work so well as they aren''t loose and flowy over the belly. And of course order big to be safe. Its generally preferable to take in rather than add fabric panels.

If they sell straight fabric, you could just buy the fabric and have a seamstress make a dress for her from scratch. This might or might not be cost effective, depending on what price range the dresses sell for, and how significant any needed alterations would be.

Depends on how big she is at 5 months. I''d look at buying the same fabric, sometimes the dress designer even sells it, and having a dress made. Call the store, chances are that they''ll have dealt with the situation before and provide some options.

Ugghhh, I was always soooo envious of women who barely showed. I swear I started growing from the day I conceived

I was definitely in full maternity wear at 4 months. People thought I was due when I was 6 months.

I''d look for a Plan B dress.

I had this *exact* same dillema for my wedding. We ordered the stress 2 sizes larger than her fitted size. At five months most brides aren''t huge yet so 2 sizes should be more than enough. When the dress came she had to tailor it in quite a bit, but it doesn''t cost her too much luckily.

Our backup plan was for her to get a plain black cocktail dress closer to the time of the wedding and to either be placed immediately to my side or as the last bridesmaid in the row.
