My 19 month old Ragdoll kitty had an asthma attack today (so the vet thinks). He was coughing, sneezing intermittently with labored breathing and "tachypnea" or rapid breathing. We spent 3 hours at the vet today....chest xrays, blood work, steroid shot, oxygen, etcetera and the vet still isn''t 100% sure.

They sent us home with prednisone and bronchial dilator meds and we are praying that his breathing gets better soon.

Please send a prayer Sebastian''s way, I would so appreciate it. This has been a very scary day!

BTW, has anyone else had a kitty with asthma or bronchitis? I know it isn''t that common.

The outpouring of prayers actually made me tear up, THANK YOU!

The update: He is breathing better today with several rounds of prednisone and the bronchial dilator medication. It''s a relief, although he is not happy about the meds...he foams at the mouth every time we give it to him...but he WILL get it no matter how painful it is for all of us!

Still haven''t heard back from the vet in regards to the chest x-rays. The radiologist was supposed to look at the films, and get back to us with more detailed information, so we will see!

I will be sure to keep you posted, I still don''t know if it is asthma for sure, but it does seem like it.

Thanks again everyone!

One of my cats has allergies. We went through a bunch of kittie litters trying to find one that didn''t leave her sneezing and having trouble breathing. Still a scoopable litter, but just the right brand and ONLY their unscented formula. (luckily it isn''t one of the super expensive fancy things -- they made her sneeze worse)

I have to scoop her box often (keeps dust and odor down), keep their kitty room all swept out, and watch what I use around the house. I know it is time to dust the living room when she starts sneezing. I try to vacuum often and use Swiffers to dust shelves and stuff.

I know allergies and asthma aren''t the same thing, but maybe reducing the allergy stuff around Sebastian will help him breathe better.
