My Gramma Joyce is in the hospital in the City. My mom called me a little bit ago to tell me that one of Gramma''s brothers called her to tell her the Dr''s don''t think she''s going to make it out of the hospital. I thought I''d ask for some good thoughts and prayers for her please.

She''s been having health problems for years. Most of her stomach had been removed and they did something with her bowels. She''s been on oxygen for a few years. The last while she''s been in and out of the hospital several times, and she just has been wasting away. This last time, she was in the hospital for a few days, went home, and got admitted again a couple days later, having problems breathing. She has COPD, and this time they also gave her a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. They sent her home from the hospital Sunday, and Monday she still was having such a hard time breathing, she had her sister in law take her to the City to the ER at one of the big hospitals there, and they admitted her right away w/pneumonia, and her feet were so swollen they could barely find a pulse. They said acute systolic heart failure.

Last night she had some type of spell, and they had a hard time waking her up. What my uncle said the Dr''s told him is that her heart and lungs are just shutting down. I called up to talk to her and tried to be so strong and supportive, and both of us just ended up crying. I had the kids talk to her too. I''m hoping I can get up to see her tomorrow-JD will be gone all day, so I''m trying to figure out how the heck to get up there and who can watch the kids. I can wait until Monday, but I''m kind of scared to.

Gramma Joyce is my mom''s stepmom. She''s not quite 10 years older than my mom-she''s not very old at all. My brother and I have always thought of her as our Gramma, not a step gramma, but I explain it when people look at me weird, with all these Gramma''s I talk about! Gramma Joyce never had any kids. My mom''s dad, her husband, died when I was 2 (he was 26 years older than Gramma), and Gramma never married again.

We used to BEG to stay weekends at Gramma''s. She baked homemade bread and made apple butter, and we''d play games. She was so fun! She always came to our school programs, and she was the one who came for Grandparents day at school.

So please, if you could send a little dust for Gramma Joyce I''d really appreciate it.

Thank you very much Miracles, D&T, Lauren, Kaleigh, and Shiny!

Gramma was a nurse at the hospital here for years. I remember being in there after a car accident and waking up different times to find a nurse hanging out with me, b/c Gramma asked them to keep a special eye on me. Nurses and secretaries were always telling me how much they love "Joycie" when I started working for my Dr''s office up there. When we were little she had a black lab named Shadow, and Shadow used to pinch my mom and Aunt in the butt, a little tiny love bite, if one of us cried. Mom said it was funny that he always knew which butt to pinch.

I''m rambling I know..she''s just such an amazing person, I want everyone to love my Gramma!

D&T, I''m sorry about your natural grandparents, and I''m glad you have adopted ones!!

packrat, I''m so very sorry that your Grandmother is so gravely ill. I know you''d like nothing better than to see her improve, but perhaps her suffering is coming to an end. I will definitely pray - - for her to have an easier rest, and for you as you deal with the seriousness of her condition.

Thanks again everyone! She looked a lot better than I thought she would-she was up and eating lunch when we got there. But she''s down to 70#. She said the Dr''s are taking it day by day and don''t know when she might be well enough to leave, but she would be going to a nursing home at that point. She''d stay in the city, since she has 2 brothers and a sister there, plus their spouses.

So, right now she seems ok! Fingers crossed she improves enough to get out soon! She did say for being such a gigantic hospital, she figured the food would be better haha.

Prayers outgoing for your dear grandma. She sounds like a wonderful wonderful person. huge hugs and prayers
