My Gramma Joyce is in the hospital in the City. My mom called me a little bit ago to tell me that one of Gramma''s brothers called her to tell her the Dr''s don''t think she''s going to make it out of the hospital. I thought I''d ask for some good thoughts and prayers for her please.
She''s been having health problems for years. Most of her stomach had been removed and they did something with her bowels. She''s been on oxygen for a few years. The last while she''s been in and out of the hospital several times, and she just has been wasting away. This last time, she was in the hospital for a few days, went home, and got admitted again a couple days later, having problems breathing. She has COPD, and this time they also gave her a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. They sent her home from the hospital Sunday, and Monday she still was having such a hard time breathing, she had her sister in law take her to the City to the ER at one of the big hospitals there, and they admitted her right away w/pneumonia, and her feet were so swollen they could barely find a pulse. They said acute systolic heart failure.
Last night she had some type of spell, and they had a hard time waking her up. What my uncle said the Dr''s told him is that her heart and lungs are just shutting down. I called up to talk to her and tried to be so strong and supportive, and both of us just ended up crying. I had the kids talk to her too. I''m hoping I can get up to see her tomorrow-JD will be gone all day, so I''m trying to figure out how the heck to get up there and who can watch the kids. I can wait until Monday, but I''m kind of scared to.
Gramma Joyce is my mom''s stepmom. She''s not quite 10 years older than my mom-she''s not very old at all. My brother and I have always thought of her as our Gramma, not a step gramma, but I explain it when people look at me weird, with all these Gramma''s I talk about! Gramma Joyce never had any kids. My mom''s dad, her husband, died when I was 2 (he was 26 years older than Gramma), and Gramma never married again.
We used to BEG to stay weekends at Gramma''s. She baked homemade bread and made apple butter, and we''d play games. She was so fun! She always came to our school programs, and she was the one who came for Grandparents day at school.
So please, if you could send a little dust for Gramma Joyce I''d really appreciate it.
