So today FI and I talked about when we''d like to get married, and we''re debating between September ''09 or April ''10. We live in Northern California so weather isn''t really much of an issue. We want an outdoor wedding and reception and both months would be lovely. But I''m trying to figure out which colors I would prefer. I always thought I''d have a spring wedding and have pink be one of my colors, but FI, being the manly man that he is, hates pink. I don''t want to force something on him because I don''t have my heart set on pink and there are many colors that I love. But if we were to do spring, I''d pretty much have to have pink because it''s just so fitting. My other spring colors along with the pink would probably be like a bright springy green and an ivory. September would most likely be champagnes/golds, ivories, and deep burgundy/red, which I also LOVE. I feel like the spring colors are more me, but the fall are more FI. But I do love both. So basically, I''m curious on what you ladies think. Spring or Fall?

On an episode of Whose Wedding is it anyways, there was a couple who did pink and green, and the guy planned most of the wedding and it came out fantastic and didnt look that girly at all.. I think the brides name was Robin and Peter and maybe it was in NJ or NYC if u wanted to youtube it or something for reference..but I think those colors together are really pretty! :-)

I picked spring because of PEONIES! I wish I could have had peonies for my wedding flowers. Fall = no peonies unlessy you pay a lot of money and maybe get them flown in from somewhere. Pink peonies!!

I'm doing pink, magenta, light blues and greens and I'm having a fall wedding heh. Pink in the fall! It's California though... we don't have 'seasons' per se.

LOL! Sorry, it looks like your poll is dead even at this moment! I say the fall, well, because the date is sooner! If you don''t mind waiting the extra time (I know you live together) and you like the other colors more, the have it then! I personally am DYING waiting to get sooner and so we''re doing the "paperwork" in Dec. and getting married in May of 09 in the eyes of the church.

Another idea is to ask around about your close family/friends plans are. Some people may be in school (or their kids) and a certain time is better than the other (ex: april spring break) or they may have travel plans or another wedding. Just see what''s out there, I know that had a big impact on when we set our date!

Congrats again! BTW I''m dying to see you in dress pics! Have you tried anything on yet (sorry it''s my FAV to see all the styles and body shapes that look PERFECT on people!)

I voted for pink and green, but my advice would be to choose a venue and a date and then choose the colors. Don''t base the colors you want on when you set your date. Also, find a venue you love first and then pick colors that look good with it, it''s difficult to find a venue that you like that fits your budget, much less trying to find one that matches your color scheme. It is much easier to choose a scheme based on the venue.

Pearl,

This made me chuckle! I wonder how many ladies and gents will agree with me when I say - he might as well get used to hating (having a differing opinion from) your colour schemes now; sooner rather than later. It will save arguments down the line. Think furniture colours, paint colours, bedding colours, car colours, shirt colours, hair colours - the longer DH and I have been together -- 10 years this year, the less we argee on colour. We are building our house and he now refuses to comment on any colours he doesnt want to choose even between two becuase he knows I will choose the other and he will agree once it is on the wall. (Bless his cotton socks - isn''t he well trained

I would get married as soon as you are ready. Why wait from Set to April? Get hitched! If you marry in Sept 09 your 1st anniversary (and anniversary gift

) will be in Sept 10. If you wait to April, you will have to wait until April 11! Would you kick youself come Sept 10 and you have to wait till April 11 for your 1st year? If you are both ready and can plan in time go for Sept if not earlier. Oh and sod the month/colours, get what you like!

- There wasn''t an option for me (funny that

) so I didn''t vote.

What if you did fall with more of a deep raspberry pink rather than a red? It''s not super girly, IMHO (I know someone who had a hot pink wedding and THAT was a bit much... it was very, uh, Elle Woods).

You could also do a brighter palette with the fall theme if you wanted, I think. Something like some touches of coral, orange and/or yellow in there. That''s what my FBIL and FSIL had, it was very pretty. Think... sunset colours, almost. I think that would be a fair compromise between the fall and spring ''feel''.

I vote for fall because it''s sooner. I think you could still do a pink/green color scheme in the fall--just make the shades darker and more vibrant. More and more, I see couples eschewing the traditional seasonal colors in favor of the colors they personally love.

According to your original post, it sounds like:

Pink- you love it, your FI hates it

Deep burgundy- you love it, your FI loves it.

To me, the decision is easy- go with what you both like, not what one of you likes and one of you hates. If you already have consensus on the burgundy, why try to complicate things?

Now, if the real issue is that you prefer a spring wedding and your FI prefers a fall wedding, then that''s a different story.

I also agree with what someone else said about waiting until you have selected your venue to decide on the color scheme. Even though your wedding will be outside, there will still be some sort of background color already there. For example, our spring-time reception is on the lawn of neo-Georgian art museum. The museum has dark green shutters. Because of this, a red color scheme, for example, would not have worked against this backdrop. Instead we are going with blues and yellows which compliment the green.

Also regarding the venue, a lot of venues are probably booked for Sept ''09 already, so you may have to go with a 2010 date just to get the venue you want anyway.

Finally, would one of your possible months be better for family and friends (i.e. Sept may be hard for friends in grad school, friends who are teachers, or families with kids who are starting back to school). Considerations like that could also help you to decide which month to go with.

Good luck deciding!

i voted fall because i was a fall bride

hehe. and i loved it.

Thanks to everyone that responded! I had no idea how hard it was going to be to pick WHEN to have the wedding. There is SO much to take into consideration!

So it looks like Fall is winning! I like the idea of doing fall just because where we live it''s still warm and beautiful, plus it''s sooner! Hopefully we will go look at some venues this weekend and see what they have available. I''ve thought about going a different route on the fall color scheme as well. But I guess that also depends on where we are going to have it. I was thinking of those colors just because we want to have it outdoors and I wouldn''t want it to totally clash with the changing fall leaves on the trees and things like that. But that sunset color scheme is lovely!!!

redrose: I haven''t gone to try anything on yet. My best girlfriend that lives in the area is out of town but should be back in a week or two and I would love for her to come with me to try on gowns, so I''m probably going to wait until she gets back. But once I do, I will definitely post pictures! I''m so excited!

Do you have photos of your wedding posted somewhere? I would love to see all of the colors together!

I LOVE Spring. Fall is great too but I really love the colors in spring.

I think apple green, aqua, gold, white or ivory and a touch of chocolate to balance things. To me, that is the grass, the earth, the sky...and the gold and white bring in a wedding element.

Oooooh that sounds SO pretty!!!!

I am using it as the colors for my son''s bar mitzvah in November. I like that it is very nature oriented, so that it is still fine for a boy and works for fall, but is not too heavy.

If you put it together, you see how gorgeous it is. But the blue must be a true aqua and the green an apple not a lime green...

It definitely sounds gorgeous! Do you happen to have any photos of anything you''re using for it?

I voted fall just because it''s sooner!

i do. just do a search for pro pics and mine should come up.

Not yet, nothing is really put together.

I am doing only white/green flowers, no blue or other colors.

His invites were chocolate brown and aqua with cream, with chocolate ink.

I saw an ad for Sephora that had all the colors in it and I saved it, the idea came from that! (it showed a chocolate brown bottle of lotion with apple/spring green and turq blue writing and it looked so pretty).

I love the combo and think a touch of brown gives it depth and works in spring or in fall.
