:( that's too bad. I'm sorry that you guys don't see eye to eye.

In terms of the underlined, I agree she certainly did choose to accept the invite. I just think it's really hard in that ind of situation. Of course she would want to go because POTUS was speaking and she was invited. And because her DH cared about America and fought for our country. But whether or not it's the best thing for her to be the center of attention during a huge national address is arguable, and something I don't think anyone should have to experience. But again, that's totally irrelevant in terms of Trump, as I don't think any other POTUS would have done things differently. Just something I hate to see because I think it puts this grieving person in a weird position that they shouldn't have to be in.

I really do totally get what you're saying, and agree it probably appears to be an awkward position to be in. But at the same time, I can also see it being - in a sense - a part of healing for her, to share a national moment of celebration of her husband, and recognition of their sacrifice; to have people recognize and respect her husband and share in and feel her grief and loss even for a moment; for others to perhaps further grasp the enormity of what we ask our military to do. And as his wife & partner, it was another opportunity for her to also celebrate him and his devotion to his country.

At least, that is how I would feel if that had been my husband who died in that mission. I had thought about it many times because I had to (DD's dad was also active duty) ... not at a presidential address per se, but military spouses know the reality of what comes with their 'role'. Her decision to attend was selfless, and entirely about honoring her husband.

That's why I have so much respect for her ... and why I so want to throat-punch my dad.

Well said. All of it. Thank you.

Yeah, I can see that perspective too. It's definitely something that different people will/would feel differently about, so I appreciate you sharing your perspective (especially since it's something you've thought about before).

The dem response was lame, weak, pathetic and indicative that they are still struggling to redefine themselves.

I still want to know details about how he's going to eradicate the radical muslim terrorists from the planet.

I agree with the bolded.

And the Dems running out of there as if they were running to catch a bus showed how pathetic they are.
Pelosi was the driver... :wink2:

They played it in Australia. I thought his speech writers (or him) are getting it right, finally. A huge improvement on some of his other self absorbed rants.....

Re: POL: Make Bingo Great Again (POTUS Congressional Address

He did what he needed to do in that speech to calm the waters. It is amazing to me that his administration didn't do that in his inaugural speech. It made me very uncomfortable and it felt very exploitive and manipulative to me, to use Ryan Owens death to further his own agenda (although that is politics) when he is still unwilling to take any blame for what happened. I was very touched by Carryn Owens, and I hope it will mean a lot to her to see that all of the genuine caring and support for her in such difficult times. Edited to say that I admire her strength.

Did they have no one else? Old white guy, replaced by Republican, state went bigly for Trump.
Serious lack of leadership. No wonder Prez Obama didn't leave town.
Bunch of the Dems (along with a couple of Repubs) should retire.

I don't think it's odd if you consider it within the context of his work. When you factor in his role with the ACA, leading his red state to what's generally considered great success with the program, it seems pretty obvious why they chose him. And yes, of course they want to pander to the old white Southern men - since they sadly seem prone to listen only to other old white men.

I'm aware that the left holds up Kentucky as proof that Obama care works. So why did the state elect a conservative governor and president who both ran against the program? Maybe because they know Kentucky is broke and can't continue the program.

Justice Ruth Ginsberg did not attend either.

Was she afraid she would be shown asleep like last year?t Or was it because she admitted she was drunk?

They should have stayed home rather than embarrass themselves and the whole democrat party.

What exactly was so embarrassing? That they left right after he was finished? It isn't like they walked out as he was talking...

Thanks EB for saying what I was thinking.

Seriously Ruby, after all Trumps many embarrassing moments the past 30 day I'm pretty confident the Democrats are not concerned with embarrassing themselves.

Then why the need for a meeting to outline proper protocol?

They had to vote on when they would allow each other to clap, stand, and collectively agree to remain catatonic the remainder of the time.
