I''ve been going back and forth on both veilshop and Occansey trying to decide which veil I should order (or try to mimic if I decide to try to make my own).

I know I don''t want anything that''s poufy on top and prefer a style that lays flatter like a drop veil or a mantilla. I also really like the idea of having it cover my face. However, the drop veils seem to look like there''s a lot of fabric, and I think I want something that hangs a little narrower, if that makes sense. And I haven''t seen any pictures of a mantilla style w/ a blusher, so I''m not sure how that would look.

It also makes it kind of hard to decide when the mannequins aren''t wearing wedding dresses (and are, to be honest, a little creepy looking).

So I was wondering if anyone could share pics of themselves wearing a 2-layer veil that''s preferably floor- or cathedral-length?

*bump*

Did no one on here wear a 2-layer veil? Is it really out of fashion now?

Hiya! I had a 2 layer veil, an elbow length blusher, and a chapel/floor length bottom. I''ll try to find a good pic of it, but I don''t think I have one that shows it top to bottom. Eerm, with the blusher my veil was ''poufier'' than I''d prefer, but my mom really wanted/liked the blusher. I don''t think I''ve seen pics of mantillas w/ a blusher, but the concept of it is pretty cool - non poufy! I''d recommend going to a bridal salon to try them on. Good Luck!

Newbie-
I looked a lot at mantilla and drop veils and here are some of the sites I came across

This link has some pictures of mantilla veils worn down over the face like a blusher http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/08/25/mad-for-mantilla/

This ladie''s bio from the knot has tons of pictures of drop veils and some info about making your own http://community.theknot.com/cs/ks/user/page.aspx?username=earlyredshoegirl#Dress

I really wanted a mantilla veil worn like a drop veil- down over my face. I made my own veil though and found that when I put lace all around the veil it felt way too heavy and the veil hung in folds in front of my face because of the weight of the lace. Maybe I just wasn''t making the veil right though and if you bought one you might not have these problems. Also I have seen people wear a mantilla veil up on their head in the traditional way and then attach a separate plain blusher.

I ended up making a drop veil with lace on the bottom edge that was 108" wide. I will try and attach some pictures so you can see what it looked like. I think if you wanted less fabric though you could certainly make the veil 72" wide.

Mine was 3 layers. I don''t have any good pics that really show the length though.

I had one, elbow length blusher, and sweep train on the main length. I had them add some extra pouf on top. My teaser thread may show some of how it looked. I don''t have a pic on the length yet... oh wait i have some non-pro pics I''ll post soon. Mainly of my bridesmaid holding that thing though haha. I don''t think I got any of me and it hanging behind me. We went non-traditional photo-wise.

Ooh, thanks so much for sharing these! I guess I actually should have clarified that by "mantilla" I meant the style that lays kind of flat like the drop veil but not necessarily w/ the lace edges. To be honest, I'm not even exactly sure why it's called mantilla, but that's what they call it on veilshop.com (http://www.veilshop.com/Mantillas_c_10797-1.html) and obridal.com.

But I also do really love the lace look. I'm just not sure if it might be too much since my dress is all lace...but it is lovely and would be perfect if I had a simpler dress.

Btw, I LOOOVE your veil! And you actually made it yourself?? Can you please share how you did that? I like how you made it so that the fabric doesn't have a lot of folds in front, which was the main issue I had w/ the ones on veilshop's site. Was yours 108" wide from top to bottom?

ETA: What did you use to keep it on your head? A pin? Or did you glue/sew on a comb? Also, do you mind sharing how long it was in the front and back?

Thanks!!

Thanks, Violet! I saw your teaser pics (congrats again, btw!), but will take a look again as I wasn''t paying close attention to the veil the first time but on just how great you looked overall (I loved your hair!) :)

Oh wow- I thought mantilla meant a lace veil. Now I see it just refers to the cut! Very pretty either way.

I just bought 108" wide ivory bridal illusion from a local fabric store. I measured in about 3 feet from each end and rounded out the corners such that the blusher and the train were rounded. My mom then beaded and attached lace to the train.

I am not exactly sure how long the veil was as I cut it based on where I wanted it to hang. I put the veil on and measured the length at about one foot past the cathedral length train of my dress and then measured the blusher to hit right about at my elbows.

I think the cathedral length drop veils on obridal and occansey are wider (120" or 130" I think?) so that is probably why they look like a lot more fabric. I looked into having Occansey make me a custom veil at the 108" width so you could look into that if you don''t want to DIY. But honestly it was really simple to make.

I held the veil on with a brooch. Just stuck it through the veil and into my updo.

My dress was all lace as well. I think the veil either way- lace or no lace will look great with your dress! Let me know if you have any other questions!
