SI3 clarity? Hmmm, I don't think that's an actual clarity grade.

I believe (after googling so I may be wrong) a s13 clarity grade is recognised by EGL.

"The SI3 was born out of the desire of the Diamond Industry to incorporate an extra grade to identify Diamonds in the lower range of the clarity scale. Many complained that there is too wide a gap between the SI2 and the I1 grade."

I think most people on PS don't assign much weight to grading done by EGL and prefer those done by GIA and AGS, but I'll bow out of this thread and let the more knowledgeable people comment.

 looks so nice

Thankyou Mayerling, all thoughts I appreciate.

It is a gorgeous ring and a large centre stone! BUT - 3.4ct G SI3 for US$7 000? Has it been treated or "enhanced" in any way? Even factoring that it was graded by EGL, that does seem rather low to me.

I ask not to embarrass you but rather because PriceScope is a consumer education site. Many here would shy away from buying a diamond that has been treated due to potential long term effects such as the structural integrity of the stone and the potential resale value. However, if treatment was disclosed to you and if you find this acceptable, then enjoy your ring - it is beautiful!

That's fine, it doesnt embarass me at all. The reason why I posted on price scope was to get well educated and honest opions. The ring has not been enhanced in anyway, this had been guaranteed. The original price was $10 000 and I got it down to $7000. I have no idea about diamonds and just want to make sure I am not getting ripped off.

Huge Red Flag: A 3 carat G SI3 for 7k. Could you provide more details like the lab that certified the diamond? Did you buy this from a reputable company? Are you acquiring it second hand?

Could you get a recommended PS appraiser to evaluate the ring? That price is too good to be true...
Could you post more pics as well?

Yes I am starting to worry its too good to be true, I live in Sydney Australia and I dont think there is any PS appraisers near there.

Sounds too good to be true... Do you have the lab report?

There are a few people here who have used appraisers in Australia. If you do a search or ask on Rocky Talk you should be able to find one.

Is the money in USD or AUD? Not that they are that much different - I think if in AUD it'd be about $7,200-$7,500 USD? Honestly, that price is way too good to be true. A 1 carat ideal cut costs about that much, give or take depending on where you're buying it from and colour and clarity. A 3.4 carat should be substantially more expensive, like $50,000 and higher. Even on the second hand market, a person who needed to sell it quickly probably get more than that for it from a jeweler. I think you should get it checked out immediately.

$7000 for a 3+ carat diamond? :nono: No way in hell.

I would agree that something doesn't add up. Find a reputable appraiser and figure out what you really have so that you can make an informed decision.

Did a quick PS search for an appraiser and found a few threads. This one might help. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/sydney-australia-ladies-looking-for-custom-jeweler.171181/ There does seem to be a shortage. If you can't find one, and are limited on time I'd honestly just head to a jeweler who says they do appraisals, even if they aren't independent. They should be able to tell you the basics, including any treatment. $7,000 is a lot to loose.

Since you asked for our opinions and said you can get a refund I'd return it.
Then read PS Rocky Talk threads for a few weeks before going shopping again.
Start by clicking on the tab above for "Knowledge".
Then select "Advanced Tutorial".

$7,000 can't buy a good 3+ ct diamond mounted in a ring with halo of diamonds.
That would cost closer to $100,000, or more.

For $7,000 I'd be looking at well-cut 1 carat diamonds graded only by AGS or GIA.
I don't mean to be mean, but you asked for our opinions.

Return it.

I doubt it has a lab report. It looks either so heavily included so as to be opaque, or else so poorly cut that it looks opaque. I am questioning if it is even diamond. Did you buy it on ebay?

Nothering else matters except: Return it.

another vote for returning it, returning to pricescope and getting "educated", and then go shopping again.

Agreed- from the pics it doesn't look clear and sparkly. Looks like an eBay pic from one of the mass sellers

Don't return it-yet. Get it appraised asap, to determine if center stone is enhanced and its actual cut grade, if center stone and side stones are actually diamonds, and gold content of ring.

Either the seller made a mistake or is not disclosing something. No one is going to sell a 3+ carat diamond ring as the seller describes for 7K even if desperate since they could just go to a jeweler would and sell it for significantly more. Which makes me feel something is fishy in Denmark.

If from ebay, what do reviews say?

Do you actually have the ring now? If so, we'd like to see photos you have taken yourself. :))

No chance a ring that size for $7000. Something fishy going on.

I support the advice above that there is something suspicious about that price for a diamond that size, even if graded by EGL. The setting is a lovely halo setting - my opinion on that is very lovely setting, but my opinion on the diamond -SI3 clarity: way too included for my taste;
EGL lab: would not be a G colour if graded by GIA or AGS; size 3 cts: AWESOME size but not certain that there isn't something further afoot with this stone.

That ring for $10K, bartered down to $7K??? This does not see right.

Do you actually HAVE the ring at this time - what does your eye tell you? What can you see when you look at this ring? Is there a return policy? Do you like it enough to spend another $50 - $150 to have it appraised by an independant appraiser??

Too good to be true is my thought...

Why waste money on an appraisal of a ring that is poorly cut, included, and overpriced for what it is (assuming the photos are remotely accurate)?

I love the setting. The airline adds a lot of delicacy and the prongs seem nicely made.

How does the diamond behave? Does it sparkle and throw off flashes of fire?

From the photos and the grading, it seems that the inclusions would significantly reduce performance. Usually, a heart and arrows stone would show the facet pattern very clearly when photographed faced on. Yet, in your photo, there seems to be a dead area in the center and the facet pattern is hardly distinguishable.

The diamond search here on PS shows that stones similar to yours (quite included) are selling for $35 to $45thousand, unset. This information is quite easy to find. So why would someone sell the ring for so low? Of course, you may have a huge bargain but these are very rare.
