my venue offers an absurd amount of starch choices, and FI and i have narrowed it down to six. the meal will be a buffet, so with that in mind, what potato dish would you be most pumped up for??

ETA: the garlic mashed also have cheddar cheese in them!

Duchess potatoes are different than twice baked potatoes. They are not served in their baked skins. They are also prepared with eggs to help hold the structure when being baked. They are quite tasty but very different.
Don''t mean to be a know it all, I ''m a chef and didn''t want you to make a choice and be disappointed on the big day!
Good luck choosing your menu.

haha thanks for the heads up - but i just copied it from the menu online and it was listed as "duchess (twice baked)". i''ll have to ask the manager to describe them more in depth i guess

I am loving the title! Hilarious! I picked au gratin...yum! I want some right now!

I voted scalloped, but I meant au gratin. I get confused between the two. Sorry mimzyyyy!!!!!

haha man! stefan wants au gratin, but i wanted twice baked. looks like he might come out on top on this one! i was just worried that they might be a little too cafeteria for a wedding, but i guess not!

i went with garlic mashed, but i will eat anything involving a potato. you could run a potato over with your car and i might would even eat it off your driveway. okay, ew, but you get my point!

Mmmm! I voted red skinned garlic mashed! I am a HUGE potato lover and would take garlic mashed potatoes over just about anything! I LOVELOVELOVE them!

It''s a toss up between au gratin and mashed....I love them both and could survive off of either if I could. Yummmmyyyy

Au gratin--I just chose the same for my wedding!

I truly love all incarnations of the potato, but au gratin is always my favorite.

I chose scallop so creamy and tasty yum now I want some but my second would have been au gratin but potatoes in general are awesome!!

I guess I'm the minority here, but I love love love garlic mashed! Esp ones with roasted garlic cloves in it! Yum!

ETA: Just looked at your poll results, and I'm not really in the minority! I guess it's because most of the people who answered in your thread were non-GM.

What are your main dishes? I picked red skinned garlic mashed, but to me, they would go better with a beef dish, and I would have picked au gratin if it was for chicken or fish. But I might just be weird.

Mashed for me! Yummmm.

ooh, thanks for pointing that out! un/fortunately we''re having roast beef with au jus, alfredo veggie lasagna, and apple pecan chicken. so i guess that could go either way!

I work in the food service field. My opinion is that the Twice Baked Potatoes aren''t that great on a buffet. The tops can sometimes get cold and you can''t stir them or flip them over.

Garlic mashed, no contest

I''m a little surprised at the large percentage for garlic mashed ''taters''. They''re so . . . Applebee''s. I''m an Irish gal who loves her potatoes, but I''m a little tired of the whole garlic thing. What''s wrong with good ol'' salt, pepper, butter, and cream; only?

If this will be a sit-down dinner, I would choose the item that will look prettiest on the plate as it is served.

If it is buffet, I think an au gratin or scalloped looks and smells inviting, and should stay hot in a chafing dish without getting too sticky.

I''m the same! I adore potatoes and will eat any of them but I picked the garlic mash. There''s nothing nicer than garlic and cheese potatoes
