My wife wants a PINK DIAMOND....

Can you guys help educate the poor soul. With regular diamonds, I understand the 3 C''s and know when I''m getting a good deal or not. But THIS... I''m totally lost.

How the different shades of pink effect the price?
Is 3C just as important in colored diamond?
How hard are they to find?

etc...

any information would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

As you would expect, nicer pink = more $$$.

Faint pinks are within the range of most consumers. Deeply saturated pinks are among the most expensive diamonds on the market.

Color is far and away the biggest factor in the value. Clarity is important, but not as much as with colorless diamonds. Cut is important, but not in the same way it is with colorless diamonds either--its mostly about how the cut improves the color. Pink diamonds that have both good color and are cut to create high brilliance are rare and very expensive.

As far as hard to find, it''s like anything else--the best stuff is also the rarest. But you should be able to find nice light pinks without working too hard. If you''re looking for top stones, you''ll need to get a dealer on your side to start hunting.

You may want to steer her to pink sapphires unless you plan on spending a couple hundred grand.
