Please help figure this out

In our meme thread, I just posted the Bizarro comic below.
But I just notice two things that puzzle me.

1. The right arrow points to a stick of dynamite with its fuse lit.
2. The left arrow points to an up side down bird under the man's stool with it's top hat fallen off.

Since it's about cats' nine lives the dynamite might fit, but why an up side down bird???
Or instead of a bird, is that something else?

And if the comic's about the 9 lives of cats, why aren't there several more hidden threats to look for?

But then again ... maybe I just need to get a life.

It's just part of the artists style. He puts all sorts of random things in, dynamite seems to be a recurring one.
