Wedding Picking a venue?!?!

So... a venue that is across the street from the place I REALLY like called yesterday, to say that someone called to book the 25th of July (the date I'm holding), and they'll hold it for 1 week to let me make a decision. I haven't seen this place, but it's not the most popular place downtown, and all the venues d-town are going to cost right about the same amount.

Do venues ever call and tell you that someone is interested just to make you think there's something you're missing? Why would that person love it, if I don't? If I don't book it now, I'll never get the chance later... what if I would love it in person?

I'm sorry, but I'm loosing my mind. Maybe I should just plan the wedding for December and then I wouldn't have choices...

When I was first agonizing over a venue in Carmel they would periodically email or call to let me know that someone might be interested in my date. That was the deal they made with me though, you can tenatively put down a date but unless you pay a deposit then it can be offered to others... and they can call you to let you know. Quite a few venues did that when I was looking. I'm not sure about the something you're missing part.

All I know is don't push too hard to book a venue just because. Don't feel pressured. Find one you really LOVE that you want... and then do what you can date-wise... I'm so glad we didn't wind up booking that first place or the second one! Both were nice but not 100% for us. We felt so pressured though with so many people wanting the same dates as us.

We had two weeks to make up our mind on our venue, but bearing in mind that our venue was booked up for Saturdays during the summers for almost four years, so I''d say it''s not unrealistic that someone could be looking for your date at that venue. It doesn''t sound like you''re convinced though. Maybe if you can, look around at other possible venues in the next week and see is there one that you love.

My dear, people have very different tastes. It is possible that this person feels the way you do about the venue across the street about this venue.

I''d say if you can get over there to check it out in person within the next week you absoluetly should. Even if it means taking a long lunch, an afternoon off or bringing a camera to take photos if your FI can not go with you. I wouldn''t suggest booking blind at all.

I worried about venues calling us and telling us the same. What I found, for the most part, was that they would call out of courtesy and not out of a desire to pressure us.

Just out of curiosity, why don''t you book the place you REALLY like?
