Fun!

Beer: I will drink most microbrews, but my favorites are ESBs. Pretty much the only beer I don't really care for is Hefeweizen (sp?). It's too sweet and sometimes has banana overtones, which kind of grosses me out. Lately we've been experimenting with some heavier belgian style beers as well as making our own. Home brewing is awesome!

White Wine: I tend to go for dry whites: sauvignon blanc, pinot blanc, chardonnay, etc. Lately I've been getting really into dry reislings. FI really likes pinot gris/grigio but I am a little pickier about those. We also drink a lot of sparkling whites/champagne. There is an awesome crémant de bourgogne blanc de noirs at Trader Joes for about $10 bucks that we really like.

Red Wines: We probably drink mostly pinot noir, but we also like lots of other varietals (Cab Sauv, Merlot, Syrah/Shiraz, Grenache, etc.). I'm a big Cab Franc fan. We also drink blends fairly often--we picked up an awesome Meritage from a winery in Sonoma when we were down there last.

As far as wine in general, I don't think I could name wineries that are my absolute favorite because the wines change so much from year to year and I have different favorites in different places. I love recommending places for people to taste when they go to wine country though.

I can't think of the last time I did shots, but for mixed drinks, I usually go for something gin based (especially if it has lime and cucumber as well--yum!). I will really try anything as long as it's not overly sweet/syrupy. FI makes awesome margaritas with patron silver, fresh squeezed lime juice, cointreau and a drizzle of grand marnier on top (sounds really similar to the skinny girl margaritas brought up earlier). I love cocktails made with unusual flavors. Lately we've been experimenting with chartreuse, which is an herbal liqueur that lends a really neat flavor. Really the biggest turn off to me about any sort of drink is if it has sweet & sour mix or soda or juice from concentrate in it. I am not a high fructose corn syrup fan and I prefer my juices fresh squeezed.
I can't be friends with you anymore.

Also, Chartreuse is the ickiest liquor I've ever tasted! I didn't have it mixed with anything though, so maybe that was the problem. It got passed around a party once and a few people almost threw up after their sips

Frozen Strawberry Margaritas, or a fruity martini. We have this spot locally that uses fresh fruit juice.. YUMMO!

LOL--FI feels similarly about Cab Franc. I guess the ones I''ve had have just been awesome. I think chartreuse is DEFINITELY something that has to be mixed. By itself it just tastes...green. Also, it is super high proof.

The guy in the tasting room at St Supery made it his personal goal to get me to like Cab Franc. Didn''t happen! Haha. Though I think it adds a lot to a blend though. I''m also used to the ones in NY state which are pretty bad, so even when I have better ones I think back to those icky ones.

What do you mix chartreuse with? I''m curious now.

Let's see...try mixing green chartreuse with equal parts gin, lime juice and maraschino liqueur for a drink called a Last Word. It's unusual, but delicious. That's what got us into drinking it.

ETA: The cab francs I've had have been napa valley or washington state, which are both well known for being good regions for both cab sauv and cab franc. That probably makes a difference.

I''m ruined for Cab Francs now. Even the expensive ones in Napa didn''t tempt me!

I should mention that I don''t like hard alcohol in general, so I probably wouldn''t like any chartreuse drink

I also can''t stand gin. Oh well. I''m worthless. Haha. If someone else ordered that I would so try it though!

charbie! I buy these mini Korbel bottles for our house. That way I can have a little bubbly without opening a whole bottle for myself and having it go flat when I don''t finish it all. They come in a 4-pack. We buy them at Super Target. Oh they make me happy!

Wine: Do not drink wine
Beer: Red Hook IPA or Mac and Jac from tap
Mixed drink: I don't like hard liquer, but if need be, Rum and Diet Coke
Shot: None

All I like is beer. Champagane is okay, too!

BEER!

Alright I could talk about beer all day. Pathetic, huh?
I could talk beer all day too. It''s actually pretty bad how much I love it!!!

(Re: the hangover thread. .. it''s really difficult for me to believe that some people have never had a hangover before. What''s life without a pounding head in the morning after a wild night on the town. hahaha Of course, it''s been a few years since I''ve done that.)

I have a few standbys but I''m always up for something new. There''s not very much that I DISlike...

Wine: Anything red but I also enjoy Reisling
Beer: girly wheat beer
Mixed drink: ginger beer and dark rum or gin and soda- I''m a nut for anything ginger flavored though
26.gif

Shot: depends on how much I''ve been drinking... hopefully something lighter like a washington apple and whatnot. If you see me ordering tequila, watch out!

Wine: I''m a red person. Merlot, shiraz, syrah and malbec. However I was introduced to Relax Riesling a couple of months ago.
Beer: Don''t like it.
Mixed drink: Stoli Raz and Sprite or a Long Island Ice Tea when I''m out. Sometimes I will get a Mojito at a place where I know they will make them correctly. At home I mix Stoli Raz and Arizona for a nice raspberry ice tea with a kick.
Shot: It''s been a while since I''ve done shots. My favs from way back were a Kamikaze or a Bl**job. That was a bar spectacle.

I''m trying learn how to make martinis the right way, since I''ve gotten some great recipes from bars in NYC.

Im not a huge drinker, but I do love a good glass of champagne, or a glass of cab when we are having steak.

Oops, forgot that on vacation I also like a lava flow or 2 or 3..haha.
