I've fallen for a few but mostly not. One is calling me now & makes me mad. DH took the 1st call when I was out -- said they were calling to collect an unpaid car loan for a Hummer! DH & I have no unpaid loans & never have. Ditto Hummers. So I checked my credit report for stolen identity -- not only is it nearly perfect but no one has inquired into it lately, so nobody's using my ss number or credit to get loans. Google reports that these slimeballs are scammers claiming to be a collection agency.

The idiot called today for the 3rd time & finally reached me. In an Indian accent so thick I could barely understand, he tells me his name is Andy Williams (sure, mine's Mahatma Ghandi) from blah blah company, forgot its name already. He's calling about "insufficiency car loan." I hung up. Wish I hadn't. I suspect the drill goes like this: "You owe on loan for Hummer. We take you to court if you do not pay." Me: "Oh my goodness, sir, I never had a Hummer." Him: "Perhaps we have wrong person. Give me your SS number and bank account and we verify you are not one we are seeking." Right, mister, a bullet between the eyes first.

Next time they bother me, I'd like to report them. But to whom? Where do you call to report scams? State? National?

I had something similar happen a few weeks ago. Same thick accent, only this person told me that they had to contact me regarding a very serious legal matter, and they had to speak to me before they pursued it further. I googled his name, and the agency he said he worked for, turns out to be a scam. I didn't report it, though I did save the voice mail he left me the first time, just in case. Nothing else came of it.

Any chance these calls show up as coming from area code 210?

I don't have caller id but would be surprised if it weren't blocked anyhow. Why, Dee Jay? Now you got me curious!

They do something called, Caller ID Spoofing- the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display which is not that of the actual originating station.
