I answer phone calls for my coworkers when they are out to lunch -as I usually eat in my office anyways. So why is it that a few people just don''t get it when I say "I''m sorry they are not available and out to lunch" or something to that affect, and I then ask would you like to leave a voicemail? ... Person the other end... "That''s ok, I''ll just call them on their CELL!" good grief, if someone is out to lunch do you not just let them be, and try back later or leave a voicemail? I understand if you''re working in a field that requires immediate attention - medical or some urgent life threatening field. Anyways thanks for letting me vent.

We refer to lunches as "meetings" here.

lol, I would assume that they were friends calling for personal reasons, not business reasons. I used to call my friend a lot at work a few years ago

I think I might just have to say that from now on, I usually just end it at they are out of the office, or away from their desk or just unavailable.

I actually had an experience with that TODAY.

Instead of going out to eat, I went out, got something to go, and brought it back to my office to eat so I could do a few things at my desk.

I went in the office and closed the door. I had a very important phone call to make. Well I kept getting knocks on my door, and its like hello you dont hear me talking??? Obviously I cant answer your knock??. Then, my other line kept ringing and ringing with an internal phone call, then I hear my intercom going off with one of the assistants trying to talk to me. It's like HEEELLLO!! 1) Clearly I am not answering my phone for a reason so stop trying 2) Even if I wasnt on the phone, I'm on lunch, give me a break!

. I usually look on my phone to see if the other person''s line is busy, if so I usually just ask if the caller wants to leave a message. if the door is closed then duh!

LOL. Ugh.

I have to say, as the voice of a phone answerer... some people don''t give a crap what you''re doing. They harass the person answering the phones until you''ve paged/knocked/sent up flares to get someone on the phone. On several occassions I''ve been asked to slip a note to the person while they''re on the phone so that they can see that it is this *super important* person, because they''re simply certain that if the person they''re trying to reach knows its *THEM* on the phone, they''ll immediately hang up with anyone else.

People can be so rude and inconsiderate. Why can''t you just leave a dang voicemail and leave it at that??

I am trying to rent a condo right now, and I spent an unreasonable portion of my day today dealing with calls from these people who got my contact info from my FI. I explained how to get there multiple times on the phone, and when I hung up and walked outside to water my flowers, they called SIX more times within TEN minutes and left no voicemails. I call back and they want me to repeat the directions AGAIN. I really hope they don''t come for a showing tomorrow.

Hahahaha! This is so true! I work for an attorney, and as his sole assistant it is up to me to answer the phone. Some people just do NOT get that a lawyers job is to be in COURT. If the boss is in court NO you cannot have his cell number, I am NOT calling the court to have him "paged" and I and NOT going down there in person to let him know that you''re on the phone. UGH! And people always call when I''m at lunch too. I usually eat in the lunchroom, but I can hear the phone from there and it rings nonstop then entire time! I know it''s part of the business I''m in but I deserve a break too

going off of this... my favorite was working at the child care/community center where parents would call and say "i have a missed call from you guys. was it important?"
did they leave a message? oh, you didn''t check first?

note - i get it if your child is sick, prone to accidents, has allergic reactions (that require shots). but common. check the message first. half the time its the care givers calling to remind the parents to bring diapers. also, all the parents know they reached the front desk, not the actual child care site.
