I am another person who knows nothing about horses, but I do know that she''s a beauty
9.gif
I love her coloring!

Hey guys!

Gecko: thank you so much for your kind words, her color has been a hit to everyone at the barn so far!

Lorelei:
35.gif
thx hun.

Lily: I appreciate you telling me your thoughts! Its nice when non-horsey people can appreciate a good looking animal too!

Here is another pic for you guys of Miss Rose. Not an good picture of her true color (funny how that works with diamonds AND horses...)she looks much more red here then she really is. Plus she is out on dirt in the quarantine paddock and red VA clay doesn''t help. Look how hazy the pic is because of the pollen!

She is munching hay on the move looking for her new "boyfriend" in the normal turn out pasture...

oh cr*p! Irish I am sorry I didn''t see your post...its nice to "talk" to someone who understands the strung out TB stride. Not all the TB or OTTB I have worked with are like that, just my mare ran from age 2-12
38.gif
. WAYYYYY longer than most. Poor doll changed hands 8 times on her jockey club papers. Just claiming race to claiming race. All over US and Canada. She was never great, but was obviously good enough to keep in the track that long. She has earned every bit of her retirement with me.

Wow, that''s a long career for your girl! My boy ran until he was nine years old, which is a long time, but not nearly as long as your mare! I agree that she has definitely earned a cushy retirement! This is why Red and I don''t show or do anything high-pressure like that . . . I feel like he''s had enough of that in his life already, so we just have fun together. After he finished racing, he was owned by a girl who evented him. I think he really enjoyed that, but it''s hard work (as you know!) so I''m trying to make sure he has a very stress-free life now that he''s 19 years old. I ride hunt seat and I love to jump, but I''m limiting him to two feet and under now . . . he doesn''t need to worry about the big sticks anymore!!!
2.gif

The most stress he has in his life these days involves getting a bath and a haircut, which we just did on Monday night. WHAT a treat!!! LOL!
20.gif

I dunno Irish, I think 9 years is every bit as long, whats a 2 years in the long run anyway? Red has more then earned his retirement in my eyes. I am glad Red gets a nice happy home with you!! I am so surprised his previous owner even *could* event with him, my mare''s legs, no way Jose! She pops, creaks and makes more noise in her joints than should be possible. She is such a hard keeper too. Lots of groceries needed plus a nice helping of pure MSM daily.

I guess the good thing about her track time, is clipping, bathes, blankets, military airplanes, your random Bentham donkey running loose etcetera don''t even faze her... LOL. She just looks at me like "Been there, done that. What else ya got lady?" Not sure if the bath/clip was more stressful for Red or you from the the sound of it. I always manage to end up with more soap on me then the horses after bath time.
20.gif

With the new mare being subjected to my craziness jumping, the OTTB gets to enjoy life, get fat, and an occasional Sat or Sunday hill topping with local hunt club.

She''s earned it!

She is such a glutton!!! She lurves her some cookies and carrots.

TB, I''m so glad your girl''s time on the track made her so unflappable! I wish I could say the same for Red! I swear, he spooks just because he wants to see if I''m paying attention, or just because he''s bored, or just because it''s Tuesday! LOL!
9.gif

And I was very lucky . . . even after all those years of racing, he''s VERY clean-legged! I don''t know how he managed to get through all that time on the track with no injuries, but he did it somehow! Of course, now that he''s 19 years old, he does have a little arthritis. He''s a bit stiff when he first starts out, but he works out of it pretty quickly. One thing that has worked WONDERS for him is the supplement I have him on. It''s called SmartFlex Senior, and it''s a great all-around supplement for senior horses. Of course, it comes in SmartPaks, which are SO convenient! It helps with his joints, his coat/hooves, digestion, etc. I noticed a HUGE difference within just two weeks after we started him on it, and he''s still doing great! I really think it has helped quite a bit with maintaining his weight as well. (Boy, do I ever know what you mean about needing lots of groceries! LOL!) You might want to give it a try for your older girl . . . I have nothing but good things to say about it!

Has she found her new boyfriend yet??

I rode a retired race horse at one point. He was trained into the upper levels of dressage. I adored him. He had the most fun personality. He''d stand in the aisle and wait for me if I had to go to the tack room. I rode him bridle less. But get him on a trail and he danced like he was on hot coals.

Clean legs + 7+ years running=unheard of! Lucky Lucky Red, and Lucky you to have him!!

I''ll have to look into that suppliment. The TB mare is 15 this year so I think she more than qualifies.
2.gif
She''s just such a hard keeper. Its a good thing she is such a love bug (once you get your hands on her... before that, fagettaboutit.... she wants nothing to do with no body!) Once halter is on, she turns into a puddle of mush... I have to attribute her "flight" repsonse to not so nice goings ons at the track. Its a shame, the bad expeirences so heavily outweigh the good ones as far as health horses coming off the track.

Thanks for the recomendation, is it terribly expensive and can I purchase at any online supplier?

Has she found a boyfriend?! Who HASN''T she found?! She is like the new red, I mean blond errrr brunette headed chick on the block.

The barn I have her at only has 5 mares and about um-teen thousand geldings. She is making her rounds for sure. They keep them in different fields (mares vs. geldings) but she has been batting eyes at a nice chunk of a paint gelding... I have to remind her no fraternizing with the enemies, I mean western pleasure horses.

Funny, thats the only time my TB mare calms down. Maybe she associates the ring with the track? She gets super aggitated when horses come up beside her, or pass her. In the field after about 15 min of warm up and her acting stupid I can ride on a loose rein. Never can I loosen the reins in the ring, or buh-bye she''s motoring around like she has a bus to catch somewhere!!

I love OTTBs. I''ve ridden a few, though they can be tough! I definitely respect anyone who can take them in and re-train them.

TB, I love the sound of your mare - unflappable horses are the best. The horses on my college polo team were so calm - you could walk 4 of them at a time, just leave them standing around, make tons of noise and swing things at their heads, anything. It''s so great to have an "easy" horse.

I figured while all the horse folks were chatting it up, I would add some more pics of the other bratty children. LtoR My dads AQHA gelding with the flaxen mane, my coming 3 year old paint gelding who I seriously need to start sometime this spring, my retired 19.1 hand (yes you correct, 19+ hands) Belgian draft that taught me the art of x-country. (Whatever we couldn''t get over, I was fairly certain he could make his way through) and my 6 year old American warm blood mare, who is the horse in my avatar. She bodied up to much to continue to jump the way I was hoping she would (pic in avatar is at 3years old) so she is now my mom''s love-bug of a trail horse.

I am looking for a pic of my TB mare. All these rowdy mutts stay at my parents farm and get spoiled and fat. I just rotate whom I am using for show at the moment down to my show barn by the house...

Hi again Elrohwen!

She is unflappable on the ground, I just wish she was like that under saddle!! She would be worth her weight in gold then! You cant relax for a minute in the ring with her. Not reallllly on the trail either. I think she is more relaxed out in the field, no expectations of work, but she can come out from under you in a heart beat!

Here''s a pic of the OTTB mare. She''s my

. She wont end up going anywhere, ever. Her or the Belgian and they both know it!

OTTBmareforps.JPG

Ohhhh, TB!!! I think I''m in love with your Belgian! I''m such a sucker for drafts . . . if I wasn''t such a TB person, I''d be a draft person! They are just WONDERFUL critters!
30.gif

And yes, you can buy all of the SmartPak supplements at SmartPak''s website (www.smartpakequine.com). Here is the SmartFlex Senior which has done so much good for Red. And I also have him on SmartCalm Ultra, which helps somewhat with the spookiness!
2.gif

His supplements cost me about $60 per month total, so it''s not too bad. Of that $60, I think the SmartFlex Senior is about $35 or so. So it''s not too awfully expensive, and I think it''s money well spent since it works so well!

love your ottb mare!! She''s pretttyyyyyyy

We really need a horsey thread, like a permanent one we can all share our love bugs on. I have new ones of mine.

hehe Irish, "The Tubster, Tubby, TubbyButt, etc" is hard not to fall for. Heart of gold and the personality of a person. he''s so darn smart and such a kind boy. He doesn''t look drafty if that makes sense? Just like a big horse, he doesn''t have the typical roman nose, and dumpy short neck body of the draft breeds. He really moves well for as big as he is, he is put together just like a big horse, not a work horse if YKWIM?

Let me see if I can wrangle up some more pictures of Tubby.

Aww thx DF, she''s a hott mess but I love her.

I nominate you to start the perm horse thread

I saw a few attempts a while back that have closed. If you do get one started, some one link this tread because I am too computer challenged to figure out how to make linky click-able.

Come on guys, I wanna see your ponies too! This shouldn''t be a TBJumper thread, it needs to be a horse lovers overload of pictures thread!

Here''s my APHA baby as a long yearling, LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. If only they would float like that forever!

Yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean! That''s my favorite type of draft . . . the "non-drafty draft"! LOL! I could tell from the picture that he''s one of those!
