Passing off fiction as fact

I'm thinking that Anheuser Busch is very happy with their $5,000,0000 investment this week.

Ruby, this commercial is a dramatization of facts. I really don't think that Anheuser Busch was trying to make a political statement (first of all the company is basically not American anymore anyway).. I think the commercial was a dramatization of the American immigrant experience in the 1800s... it's true Irish immigrants were spit upon and Italians also.. but since Busch was German they took poetic license. I will put up a pointer(s) if you wish me to.

And now the backlash.

Pretty soon one side or another is going to be boycotting everything.

And who loses. As I said before, it is the innocent workers who may lose jobs over it.

Ruby, I honestly can't understand your motives with this, or many of your other political posts as of late. First you post the link in order to raise awareness of this "lie" and how wrong you think it is of AB to create the commercial, and then you post a link talking about how you're upset that innocent people may lose jobs if people boycott against AB. While some people boycott things because they've done their due diligence and research the underlying factors in business decisions, a lot of other people get their facts exclusively from social media (forums are social media). When you exaggerate these situations in posts like this by simply posting links you've seen, you're blindly perpetuating the same behavior that you're also opposed to.

I think the people who want to boycott AB based on this ad SHOULD. They have clearly lost too many brain cells already and shouldn't risk more with consuming any alcohol whatsoever. The add was made LONG before this week's clvster**** (I know how long it takes to make an ad and air it because I've had a bit of filming done in my house and have talked with production crews about it). Plus, AB is telling a story here that about drive and hard work that should be positive and compelling about. Sometimes too many people have unnecessary solutions just looking for a problem.

Read what I highlighted.

You said a lot more get their facts from social media.

So what am I exaggerating?

I go to Starbucks regularly as I do not care for Dunkin Donuts coffee. I have gotten to know people who work there. A couple have told me that tips, which they heavily rely on, are way down due to less people buying their coffee there.

Pure fact right from the people who are caught in the middle who can ill afford to be there.

What on earth? That's not even remotely what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the fact that you post hyped up political news articles, and then when others post disproving them (like your Merry Christmas teacher thread), you change your tune. Others have pointed out in this thread that this commercial was filmed long before the ban and was a dramatization, as are just about every commercial ever made. I just wish you would do research BEFORE posting things on the internet as true.

Edit to add: from the other thread!

And then only after much back lash they finally did something about it.

No one here boycotting them?

What are your standards for not doing business with a company and speaking with your pocket book?

And read my response upthread - why embellish? Why not state his story as it really hapened? Not dramatic enough? Won't incite more hatred so they can sell more beer.

And again, since you missed it. Just because you filmed it, does not mean you have to show it. Scrap the damn commercial and eat the loss.

As far as your time, no one is telling you to respond to me. I sure can live without your nasty posts.

I edited my post above but in case you don't read it, you literally just called for people to boycott SNL in another other thread over the personal comments of one of their staff members (not in a work capacity), and yet here you think people boycotting causes unnecessary suffering for workers?

Wrong again.

I am pointing out how foolish this is becoming for both sides and where will it end.

Flying...?! I'm not particularly getting Dugan's point with that one to be honest.

But I'm sure pretty soon there will be people boycotting FB because of the flying boycott! :cheeky:

Look, behind boycotts is the belief that even though it may hurt some people in the short run, the policies which led to the boycotts will harm even more people so it is worth the short-term pain. Hitting the pocketbook is also a way to force the powers-that-be to take notice and perhaps reconsider their position -- because nothing motivates like self-interest.

I actually saw a post on Facebook last night calling for people to boycott Lady Gaga's halftime show due to its liberal agenda. SERIOUSLY?
It's entertainment. Did anyone feel traumatized or harmed by her message of inclusion? Especially after she sang "God Bless America" and "This Land Is Your Land?"

Sometimes I am just flabberghasted. I don't understand that boycott at all. And if you're going to boycott one thing, I hope you make sure the reasons you're doing it for carry over to everything else you consume.
