My daughter needs to do some social studies research (elementary school).

I can''t make it to the library until Thursday and she wants to find some info before we can make it to the library.

Anyone have any recommendations for good homework/child safe sites that she and I can sit down together and do some research?

Especially sites that have accurate info.

Thanks!

Hi Asscherisme! Without knowing the topic, I can say you should try Yahooligans.com (which is a child-friendly yahoo search engine.)

May I ask the topic (I was/am a English teacher who has spent most of her career teaching social studies). I have tons of sites...

Thanks! Medieval feudal systems is the topic.

Ooh, lots of stuff...ok...please give me a little time...

If I were smart, I''d list these all in one post, but I want to get them to you asap...

For this one, scroll down...this is a lesson plan with good linkies for kids:

Depending on her reading level: http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/history/middleages/feudal.html

By kids for kids (with a webquest!) http://www.dmoz.org/Kids_and_Teens/School_Time/Social_Studies/History/By_Topic/Feudalism/

Let me know if any of these help...if not, I''ll keep trying!

Thank you, thank you!

My daughter will be happy after school today to be able to find some info.

Like I said, I can''t make it to the library until Thursday and she is so excited about this project she wants to learn info as soon as possilble. I think its so great she is excited about learning.

The teacher has given each child a role and they need to learn about their role and the class is dividing into 2 groups to make up a "historically accurate fictional" play. So in order to do that, they need to learn about the roles and lives of people back then.

Those sites are really helpful and I know my daughter will thank you :)

I remember learning about this stuff when I was a kid and don''t remember getting as excited as she is.

She has a really great teacher who gets the kids all pumped up about learning and makes it fun for them. Good teachers are the BEST! As a parent I love it when my kids get excited about learning :)

So know you made a 3rd grader smile today because I know she will be excited when we look stuff up today.

Awww, I''m sorry I didn''t see this sooner. You are both welcome!

How did the research go? Is the project done?
