My mother is having the outside of her house painted. She watches my little girl (7 months) during the day and she is saying she can smell paint. I was hoping this wouldn''t be the case since it''s outside. It''s an all-week paint job, so will continue. I dont'' know what to do--should I do whatever it takes to move my baby out of there for the week (would have to rush home now, pack up, drive an hour to our house and find someone to watch her during the week since I work). I just don''t know how bad this really is, and as usual internet is not helping me think straight.

Thanks...

I''d go over there and take a sniff for myself. If it''s strong then I''d have someone else watch her. If not I think she''d probably be okay since it''s the outside being painted and not the inside.

Can the paint be smelled even with the windows closed? Personally, I wouldn''t feel comfortable having my baby there while the house was being painted, but if you cannot smell the fumes inside, your little one probably would be okay!

Hun, we all grew up mid century breathing our parent's smoke, the DDT that the neighbor sprayed, the paint from inside and outside, and our siblings farts. Trust me, VOC or not....it's no big deal. It's not like there is lead in the paint, or that it's some highly volatile petroleum product loaded with carcinogens. Think about how many times you've been exposed to paint...Nuff said

If you want to worry about something, cogitate on how many times your little one has licked the carpet

thanks girls, you were right. I went home early to see for myself and the smell is not strong, so I think it''s ok. Thanks for helping me get through that initial panic!

Good god, we used to race our bikes against the truck that sprayed for mosquitos once a week!
