Wedding Our Wedding Vows.

I mentioned that while our day was truly magical and wonderful the ceremony, and in particular our vows (and John''s to me), were just... the most amazing part of a wonderful day. We wrote our vows ourselves and a couple of you asked to see our vows, and well, I decided to share. So here they are:


John''s to me:

Layla.

You reached out to me and opened my heart when I had closed myself to the idea of love.

You are my partner, my best friend, my confidante, and my heart.

You’ve given me joy and confidence, and made me truly understand the meaning of the words soul mate.

I look forward to the rest of our lives, Love. To growing old with you, to laughing with you, loving you, and enjoying the remainder of our lives together.

Nine years, we’ve been together. And in those nine years I’ve learned more about love and happiness then I ever thought possible. I’ve learned more about what it means to love, and be loved in turn, than I had ever imagined. And what truly amazes me is as much as I loved you since the day I met you, each day I spend with you that love deepens. And today we stand here together, and I couldn’t dream of a life with anyone else.

Layla, I promise to love you and hold you close, to be a comfort and a safe haven in your life.

I promise to support you when you need help, and to turn to you when I need help.

I promise to make you smile when you’re sad, and to laugh with you when you’re happy.

And I promise to be cherish you forever.

I, John, take you, Layla, to be my beloved wife. For the rest of my life.



Mine to John:

When we met, nine years ago, you promised so much … and I remember how much I wanted to believe and how afraid I was. You’ve kept all your promises to me, love. Even the ones that may seem silly to others, but are still so important to me. At the beginning, I didn’t know we were playing for keeps… and then one day I realized we weren’t playing, and it was forever. We looked into each other, saw the real person standing there, and were home. You are my home love, never think otherwise.
You are my best friend, my partner, and my heart.
You make me laugh when I am ready to cry.
You make me smile and relax even when I’m stressed (which we both know is all the time).
You make me a better person just by being in my life
I vow to always be here for you
To make your problems my own.
I vow to help you with the tough decisions
And to always speak my feelings. I vow to support our dreams
And to shelter you in troubling times.
I vow to apologize when I am wrong,
and to forgive when we misunderstand.
I vow to trust you, and to be worthy of you trust.
I vow to believe in you, and to faithfully love you forever
With all of my heart.
I’ve known for many years that you are a part of me,
And that we will share our lives together. And with you at my side I look forward to lies ahead with hope in my heart.

Aww, thanks guys. They are really from the heart, and I think anyone hearing (or reading) them can tell. It really made our day so special and meaningful. I''m thinking of having them sent to a calligrapher and then putting them in our album.

We did share them when we first wrote them... 2 months before the wedding. But then we both made edits (I shortened mine, he lengthened his) the last week, and so they were a surprise that day. We didn''t memorize them, we read them from paper.

And yes, I was sobbing. I think John was 2 lines in before I started the waterworks. I managed to pull it together a little when it was my turn. But I read really slowly, cause I was afraid of bursting into tears again. It was just a very ''real'' moment. Ya know.
