I''ve only seen The Blind Side. It was fantastic, but I was surprised to hear that it was nominated for an Oscar. I''ve heard of all the rest except District 9. Am I the only one who thinks this, or are some movies nominated before the public gets to see them? It seems that every year there''s at least one that I''ve never even heard of.
District 9 was played at the theatres here for weeks. And it was quite hyped too. I''m not sure about the US, but I would think it would be the same?

Up in the Air
District 9
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
Precious
Up

I''m going to try to see A Serious Man this weekend, and plan to catchThe Blind Side later this month when it comes out on VOD. Haven''t thought about checking out An Education, and have no interest in Avatar (strange, I know).

I was a bit conflicted at first when I heard about the "new and improved" Best Picture race- upping the noms to 10. I get where the Academy is coming from, but I think it somewhat muddled the waters.

Zoe- District 9 came out late last summer, it''s a South African production that also involved Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). Here''s more about it :http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20246950_20263261_20273630,00.html

The Blind Side

DH saw Avatar without me and loved it.

I''d really like to see all of the others, actually, but we keep getting sidetracked by these darn horror movies. We are such horror film junkies that we can''t resist them when they come out!

I liked all of the movies I saw, though. Up was very slow, but tender and touching. District 9 was really interesting, I liked the tone of that movie. The Blind Side had me tearing up from minute one, and Up in the Air was fabulous, I thought--from the blue-washed images to the really steady pace all the way through, I really enjoyed it.

I''ve seen 6 and enjoyed them all. Ofcourse, I''d want ''Inglorious Basterds'' to win, because I''m a HUGE QT fan.
Kama--Did you happen to catch this interview with QT on NPR? It was great.

Up is the only one; it was great.

not Kama here, but I caught it! QT is such an interesting guy. I admit that I liked Basterds more than I thought I would.

Oh yeah, should''ve mentioned earlier that I''m rooting for THE HURT LOCKER and Kathryn Bigelow. It''s about time a woman won Best Director!

My DH saw Avatar 3 times because he loved it so much. If you get a chance, go see it before it''s out on Blue Ray/DVD because it, of course, won''t be the same without 3-D effects.

With much apprehension, DH took the kids to see it. Most of the political storyline went over their heads, but they did like the 3-D part.

Not one! We haven''t been to the movie theater in almost a year. We get busy and forget and then next thing we know, it''s on a cable channel.

I''ve seen Avatar and the Blindside. I think Avatar is one of the best creations I''ve ever watched in terms of digital beauty. That being said, I hope Blindside gets it.... phenomenal story.
Oh, I''m so happy someone said this before me, but I hope Sandra Bullock and The Blind Side wins. I know I have nothing else to compare it to on the list, but I LOVED that movie. It was something truly special, both the movie and the real life story.

Oh, I actually haven''t. Thanks for sharing the link. QT normally gives really bizarre interviews, it''s quite hilarious.

Avatar, IG, and Up

I''m going to have to see The Hurt Locker after all these rave reviews... I''ve honestly never heard of it haha. We went a couple months without TV so it was probably promoted during that time.

I thought both Avatar and IG were phenomenal. I will warn though IG is a bit twisted so you have to be into that. SO and I loved it and raved about it to his parents. They, however, didn''t like it at all and probably now think that SO and I are pretty dark since we kept saying how humorous it was haha.

I personally didn''t like Up. It was WAY too sad for me. I cried through most of the movie. I''m terrified of outliving SO so him constantly talking to the house as if it were his wife just ate at me.

Ugh idk how you award one of these best pic... they''re all SOOO different. It''s apples and oranges IMO.

OK, I added one more to the list. We watched The Hurt Locker last night, and I liked it. I don''t necessarily get the Oscar nod, but I enjoyed the movie tremendously.
