My mom was in an iron lung because of polio for almost a year as a child.

My sister was in an iron lung, had a trach, and had to learn to walk and breathe on her own again (her heart stopped beating) in 1956, she did not have polio she had Guillame Barre disease, she literally almost died, went thru hell at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in the city, it was a horrible, scary, sad time for my parents, (I was 2) my sister was never healthy again, never happy, never secure etc.. she died at 65 5 years ago, she died because she was afraid to go to the doctor cause she smoked and because her fear of doctors after her paralysis etc.. sad sad story.
