Just curious, how much do you spend on Christmas gifts on your child?

I don't have any kids, so none. :wink2:

BUT I seem to be buying everything in sight for our nephew and nieces. They aren't expensive gifts though, just lots of $5-$10 books, activities, science-y stuff.

There isn't one present under the tree that isn't for the four of them. When I have one of my own it will take a lot of willpower to not buy them their own Toys R Us franchise.

I actually got carried away this year! I bought them a little kitchen, some Melissa and Doug play food, M&D puzzles, a little outdoor grill and some books. Last year they were 8 months so this year I couldn't help it! I don't buy them too much most of the year.

We actually just totaled this up last night, so timely post! The girls are (almost) 8 & 10. The "big gifts" we're a little canon elph for the 10 yr old (in pink, of course!) and a Lego friends summer riding camp set for our 8 yr old. In total we spent about $500 this year (total, not each). Now that they're getting older, it takes a lot more money to make an impressive pile of presents under the tree!

I think we will end up spending $350 for both kids after all is said and done. They are getting two 16" bikes, a dollhouse, a train table, two dream lites, two personalized Disney fleece throws, a pillow pet and book, a play mat with cars, a box of legos (~800 pieces), a box of duplos (~500 pieces). I still have to get some stocking stuffer.

ETA: We actually didn't buy them anything for the first couple Christmas of their lives. But I love seeing their expressions now when they open their presents. It's so magical for them.

Depends... Are we counting our DHs as our kid? Hahaha!

I have two kids and I don't spend equal amounts. DD is 17 and DS is 2. This year, we got DD a laptop (we split the cost with my parents) and will buy her probably another $150 to $200 worth of stuff. So, her total will be around $450. This is unusual for us but she's 17 and we were planning to get her a laptop for college anyway. For DS, we spent under $150. He's easy to please.

I have NO idea yet! I was asked to be a "personal shopper" and pick up the gifts for the kids and some are from me and some are from two others and I have to calculate what is from which person and am totally confused! :errrr: Receipts are scattered as much as my brain is right now.

None bec no kids. But with the niece and nephews, when they were little bitty we did a check for the college fund and then a little toy. As they got older we stopped the check and got bigger toys, so about $100 now, more as babies.

I think we got him two gifts this year...so about $25 :) But he's only four months. Plus, we figured the grandparents would be buying him an obscene amount of stuff. It's funny, one of his gifts came in the mail. I held it up to show DH and the baby saw it. He started reaching for it. Oops, sorry little man, you'll have to wait.

over $4k...way too much this year...

We have a 6.5 month old who will be 7 months old the day after Christmas. My husband is Jewish and is sharing Chanukah with our daughter (even though she isn't Jewish by birth) because he wants her to experience his traditions and I think that's pretty great. He bought all of her Chanukah gifts (I'm possibly misspelling here, sorry), and he will buy her, and our almost-5-year-old niece some Christmas gifts.

I have spent around $250 on our daughter, and another $50 on our niece for Christmas. So to answer the original thread topic, let's just call it $500 and be done. Our bills and mortgage are paid, we contributed to our savings account (and hers), and none of this was purchased with credit cards, so I feel like we did not overspend at all. I can rest easy this year. Heck, we've even put back some extra just in case we fall off the fiscal cliff. Now, next year I would like some diamonds...come on Pres. Obama, show me tha monayyy!

I have spent around $175 for each of my three kids. We also bought them a $75 homemade icecream machine as a gift from us. The rest are from Santa.
