So I am not entirely sure where this tradition came from, but I have always loved it! Wearing something old, new, borrowed, and blue on your wedding day. So I was curious, for those of you who are following this fun tradition, what are your things?

My wedding is at least a year away (we haven''t set the date yet) but I already know what my "something blue" will be. My sapphire and diamond ring that my Fiance gave me this past Christmas!

silver sixpence in your shoe....people always forget this part.

I''ve never heard that part!

So where do I find sixpence? Haha

That might be kinda awkward if you''re wearing strappy sandals ... Loose change spilling out everywhere as you walk down the aisle.

I just bought a handkerchief embroidered with our names and date with light blue thread... my something blue!
Does a wedding dress count as the something new? :)

Just don''t know what to do about the old and borrowed...

Old : a Handkerchief/bonnet that I was given when I was a baby, there is a poem attached that goes like this:

I am just a Linen Hanky, as square as square can be, But with a clever stitch or 2, you can make a bonnet out of me. I can be worn home from the hospital or on the Christening Day, Then I'll be clean and neatly pressed and carefully packed away. When you are mature and grown and you special wedding day nears, you will have that something old which has been tradition through the years. So what could be more fitting, than to unsew little me, Then I'll become a wedding hanky and oh how proud I'll be. And if perchance it is a boy, then on his day to wed, he can present to his bride to be, the hanky once worn on his head.

New dress/shoes

Borrowed My mom's diamond necklace

Blue underwear/garter

My old was the diamonds in my earrings (from my mom''s and my grandma''s erings), my new was my necklace that dh got me, my borrowed was my headpiece that I borrowed from Robbie, and my blue was my undies!

I''m too far away to think of it but I want to get my best friend something from Tiffany for her something new and something blue. She''s been dying for a little blue box.

I might just get her the box.

HAHA That''s messed up.

Conversation with myself over.

Omg that is the cutest thing ever!!!

Lol, touche, IWPO. Touche.

That''s actually pretty cool and would be a great thing to pass down to a daughter someday.

I''m British, my granny would roll in her grave if I broke that tradition.

Old - my pearl necklace (My grandfather began it as an add-a-pearl for me when I was born.)

New - ummmm, everything else: dress, earrings, barrettes, shoes, etc.

Borrowed - my aunt''s diamond bracelet

Blue - my gorgeous shoes!!!

Old - my 1880 lace veil, 1922 tiara, 1908 22ct ''spare'' wedding-band and my 1947 mikimoto pearls

New - my dress, my sphene pendant & earrings

Borrowed - the lace tablecloth on the wedding-cake table - it was made by my great-great aunt and my mother lent it to me.

Blue - my BMs dresses and the lavender in my bouquet

Sixpence - I found a 1908 silver sixpence on ebay - in the UK we normally superglue them onto the underside of your shoe (the bit you don''t walk on).

Thanks Pearl-I remember always having it in my drawer when I was little so when I got engaged, I ravaged my drawer to find it, my mom was so excited because she had forgotten I had it. I hope to give it to my sister and then to my daughters

I''m carrying my great-great grandmother''s rosary. it''s old, but it''s new to me, it''s borrowed from my mother because she won''t let me have it, and it''s blue. my shoes are also bright blue satin, and i also have my christening bonnet, which turns into a hankie (my poem attached is different from the other one that was posted here--the bonnet was first my father''s, so the poem is for a boy, but it''s been passed down to me from my mother because she carried it on her wedding day). my dress and veil are new.

Old: A beautiful handkerchief that belonged to my dear friends grandmother, she gifted it to me the night before my wedding.

New: Diamonds earrings from my DH

Borrowed: Diamond bracelet my sister "lent" me...which my mom purchased esspecially for her to borrow me on my wedding day, lol.

Blue: Sexy blue panties

Six Pence: Found at Davids Bridal

My something old and blue is my late grandmothers blue sapphire pendant that I will clip to the inside of my dress so it will be close to my heart. I don''t have the new or the borrowed.

Something Old: a wishbone brooch circa 1950s that belonged to my mom. (Let me say I LOVE vintage brooches. They''re my biggest obsession, second only to diamonds...)

Something New: My garter

Something Borrowed: The hankerchief my oldest sister (who is 21 years older than me!) carried at her wedding ten years ago.

Something Blue: A bracelet of my birthstone, aquamarine, that my closest in age sister (who is only 4 years older than me) gave me as a bridal gift.

LMAO...that sounds like something I would come up with, fiery! Too funny!

I actually didn''t get all of these things taken care of, and on the day of, it was too late, so here''s what I''ve come up with to convince myself I had it all covered...

Old...didn''t have anything, so since my diamond is at least 30-50 years old, that will have to do, along with the fact that one of my oldest and dearest friends made it to Maui for the wedding...

New...wedding dress, fuchsia shoes, green amethyst jewelry...heck, I even had a makeover and new set of nails put on for the big day!

Borrowed...well, heck, I got nothing going for this one. I''d asked my mom for something to wear and she said she had nothing to lend me, so my friend found a blue heart brooch she gave me to wear on a garter I didn''t plan to wear, so I did have that at the hotel with me, but we all forgot it! Maybe it was there in spirit???

Blue...my undies and one of the two rhinestones left on the flowers of my toenails...the other one got chipped off when I got washed ashore a few times in a haphazard snorkeling attempt/accident the day before the wedding...I still have scars on my toes and knees from this experience...not one I will soon forget, and I lost my cute new dragonfly toe ring in the process, dangit!

I wish I had grabbed one of my grandma''s old hankies I had and just carried it with my bouquet...I guess I was hoping my mom would bring something along for me to surprise me with, covering both the old and borrowed, but oh well!

I will make sure to keep on it for my friend''s wedding, though! I''m much better at remembering stuff for other people!
