Okay, slightly silly vendor etiquette question...

But bare with me, I mean this question seriously!

I have been dealing with two vendors for the last few months as I have been trying to decide what type of ring I would like to get to celebrate the birth of my son. I have e-mailed and talked on the phone with my reps at both vendors A LOT over this time. I changed my mind about one million times and asked for at least... oh... eight quotes for different types of rings from each of them. Exchanged about 30 e-mails each. Finally, after a lot of deliberation, I have made a decision on the style I want, and both vendors gave me quotes that were within my budget and very close to one another.

I have chosen to go with Vendor A because I feel more confidence that they will create the ring to my ridiculously OCD standards

But my rep at vendor B was simply wonderful and bent over backwards for me. Really top knotch service all the way.

What do I tell my rep at vendor B concerning my decision? Should I just be completely honest?

And I know I don''t *owe* my rep at Vendor B anything, but the service has been so wonderful that I want to tell my rep about my decision. I don''t want to just fade into the night.

Well I would write a review on them here on PS if you like. When I first joined TGAL had an excellent review put together on how it went with all the vendors she was in contact with for her ering and I appreciated her thoughts on each vendor and how they compared; it was extremely helpful. I would let him know the truth, but that is just me; I think it is just nice to do so. Sure you don't have to but it doesn't keep them hanging or just let them know you won't be working with them.

Just be nice about it and tell them you went with another vendor.
Telling them you trusted the other party more seems kinda mean.

Skippy I will think about posting a revue. I think at the very least it would bring my rep to the attention of the bosses, which would be deserved! I may also just send a very good thank you. I don''t know if they work on commission where he is. but if they do I feel badly since he deserves something for his time spent with me.

I agree that would be mean! LOL! And that is my conundrum... If I just say "Sorry I chose to go with someone else" I feel almost certain that my rep will politely inquire about the reason, which is valid if the company wishes to improve their service etc in any way. They know who I am on PS so they will find ou tthe reason if they want to (not sure they spend time here or not). Anyways, I will just say that I went in a different direction and leave it at that.
