I''m slightly amused by the OMG she pierced her poor dogs ear? How many people pierce their babies ears as if they have any choice or say so?

Not that I would because that means sharing diamond $$$ with my dog.......it''s just not gonna happen!

Some people are horrified that people eat meat or even keep animals as pets.

But then, in some countries they eat dog.

Some people respect life so much they try to not even step on an ant.

I remember a National Geographic pic that showed rats eating a feast put out for them in a temple.

We have two dogs and I''d never tattoo or pierce them, but I wouldn''t get all bent out of shape is I saw someone else did to theirs.

Nothing''s absolute.

It''s all relative.

That''s funny that you mention a rat temple... I was actually talking about rat temples in India today at work.

Honestly I''m way more horrified when I see a toddler with peirced ears... my dog had a WAY higher pain tolerance than most toddlers I know...
This crossed my mind. A pierced ear is hardly the same as a cropped ear or tail, in my mind. Its skin, not bone and muscle. And we do it to ourselves all the time!

The tongue on the other hand hurts like %&*%@ to get pierced, I''d be much more offended if the pup had a diamond tonguw stud

I must live in the wrong places because I never see big BLING! My own is pretty large compared to what I see.

I was wondering if you got pictures of the girl''s ring, Haven. Maybe next time?

I''ve never known why dogs'' tails and ears are clipped. Can someone fill me in please? Thanks!

I know that beagles have the tips of their tails cropped so they don''t break them while out hunting in the woods. I know two families both got beagles from one breeder and one family insisted that he not crop the tail of their pup. Both were hunting dogs, well, guess who had a broken tail/pain meds/vet bills within a year?

so, sometimes there are legit reasons for doing it. I don''t know how its done though

I find it more offensive that she''s wasting money putting diamonds on her dog! The piercing doesn''t bother me.

I had my ears pierced as a baby. I''m really happy I did too. IF I have a daughter...that''s what I plan to do. It heals, and will a baby remember the pain?

Haven, this reminds me of something that happened to me last week: A client came in to work to sign a document, and her ring was HUUUUUGE!!!!! And GOOOORRRRGGGEEEOOUUUSSSS!!!

It was an RB in a very simple yellow gold solitaire setting. Like you, I''m not usually a big RB fan, but this thing was just amazing. It must have been every bit of four carats, with an excellent cut. And, yes, it was eye clean. I could tell because I had to witness her signature, and I was watching REALLY closely! LOL! I was trying so hard not to drool! I even discreetly pointed it out to a co-worker of mine, but she just said "Oh, yeah . . . it''s nice." NICE?!?! Just NICE?!?! WTF?!?!

Some people just don''t get it!

That is so crazy!!! Where the heck do you live? I am glad she is a jeweler. That somehow makes it all more reasonable (the fact that she shares her diamonds with her dogs). I am a dog person, but still not sure I get it!!

??? I''ve never heard of Beagles having docked tails. Beagles (are supposed to) have white tips on their tails, so the hunter can spot them easily in the tall grass, etc. I used to own 2 Beagles, and know quite a few Beagle owners and have never heard this mentioned by anyone.

The majority of breeds that have docked tails are for hunting purposes. I have a Jack Russell, her tail was already docked when I got her at 2 months old. Jack Russell''s are under-ground hunting dogs, it''s safer for the dog to have their tail docked.

The correct time to dock a tail is within the first few days of the puppies life. From what I understand, the nerves and/or bones in those areas haven''t developed, so it''s not painful.

I have heard that Boxers (and maybe other breeds?) get their tails docked because they''re prone to something called "happy tail", which is where they wag their tail so hard that they can break it hitting it against stuff.

Sometimes I think it''s done for vanity? So the dog looks sleeker? I''m not sure about Dobermans and why they are typically cropped, but I did see an un-cropped Doberman one time and I could not figure out what breed it was! It had floppy ears and a very SKINNY curled up tail...it only dawned on me later it was an un-cropped Doberman! And boy he sure didn''t look like the typical, sleek, menacing dog you picture when speaking of Dobermans.

Me too - my mom pierced my ears when I was 6 mos. old and I''ve never had a problem with them

Plus I didn''t have to worry about keeping them clean while they were healing - it was my mom''s problem

even though I love jewelry and I love dogs, combining the too just seems so....excessive

I''m a dog person too, and this was a first for me!

We live on Chicago''s North Shore. There''s a lot of great bling around here, as well as a lot of puppy love, but I''ve never seen the two combined before.

If she''s back in class on Wednesday I''m going to try to snap a picture of her ring. I''d take a shot of the dog but I just don''t want to add fuel to this fire.

Sounds like a great ring but boo to her piercing her dog''s ear.

I totally understand all of your reactions and they are justified....

But We pierce our babies ears, My mom pierced my ears when I was like 1 year old. I didn''t have much say in that. I''d go with a pierced ear on a dog over cropped ears. Some of them have tattoos in their ear with a serial number ( my dobbie had one ).

And VETS STILL DECLAW CATS! Talk about pain and suffering!!!!
