I just got back from our dog training class with the pup, and one of the other owners there had the most amazing diamond ring I have ever seen in real life.

First, it was a ginormous, sparkly, RB. My best friend wears a 3 ct RB, and this one tonight had twice the spread of my friend''s ring. I''m not normally a fan of RBs, but this was really a stunner. I can''t even begin to guess what it weighed because I''ve never seen such a large diamond in my life.

Then, it was set in a very dainty eternity band. It looked like three-sided pave, but I can''t be certain. And the prongs! The prongs! They were so thin and elegant, oh my goodness.

At the end of the class I was talking to her about her pup, who has a pierced ear, by the way. She said that she used to have a diamond stud in the dog''s ear, but changed it to a hoop because the stud fell out. At that point I said "Well, you have wonderful taste in jewelry, your ring is just stunning." She thanked me, and told me that she''s a jeweler. Of course! She''s working on a tennis bracelet for the dog''s paw at the moment, she said that the dog stays with her in the store all the time so she has to accessorize her.

I''ve seen really large pieces in real life before, and I''ve seen really beautiful settings in real life before, but I have never seen such a beautiful marriage of eye-popping size and delicate setting before. I''m still stunned.

Anyway, my husband didn''t really appreciate my excitement over this ring, so I had to share with the only friends I know who would: my PS friends!

Have you ever seen a piece on a stranger in real life that was so gorgeous it bowled you over? If so, do tell!

She pierced her dog''s ear. Well, that just proves that all her taste is in her mouth

That''s awesome, Haven!!

You got to talk about 2 of my favorite things in the world, dogs and diamonds!!

But as I''m smiling over here reading your post, I wish I was her pup!!! Can you imagine being a dog and blinged out?!? You don''t ever have to work, everything if provided for you, AND you get to wear diamonds! Oh my!!!

I know. DH was about ready to call someone in to take the dog away. He thinks the piercing is tantamount to abuse.

I was so stunned by her ring that it didn''t even faze me at that moment.

How fun Haven!! Next class take a pic for us...

ETA, never heard of someone piercing a dogs ear?? Ouch poor doggie.

Lucky--Dogs and diamonds are two of my favorite things, too!

Kaleigh--Is it bad that I was actually trying to figure out if I could sneak a picture in? I was standing there in class seriously considering if I had a chance at getting a shot without her noticing.
As for the pierced ear, it really does make me sad. I *hate* seeing dogs with clipped ears and tails, the piercing is along those lines, for sure.

I hijack people all the time. Usually in Starbucks. I tell them about Pricescope!

I can understand how you feel about wanting to share it with us.

I have no appreciation for a woman who dresses her dog in diamonds - even if she is a jeweller.

I was going to post a very similar topic two days ago. I was at the gym in spin class, the woman on the bike to my direct right (her left hand was a mere two feet from my face) had a massive ring on. I stole glaces for an hour...If I had to guess it was an 8 carat asscher (I know they tend to face up smaller than RB''s,etc that is why I think it was 8 cts), set with tapered baguettes on each side. Her wedding band was a large carat weight asscher eternity band. If I was a betting woman I would guess almost 20 carats of diamonds!

I didn''t get a really friendly vibe, so I declined sparking up a conversation with her after class.

It was exciting!!!

tee hee, I was thinking the same thing!
Come on Haven, pretend your taking pics of the dog and use the zoom to get the ring.

The ring sounds gorgeous.

I have a pierced ears, am potty trained and will occasionally fetch a newspaper, where do I apply to be this woman''s pet?

Alright, the ring sounds very exciting, and I appreciate the ethical debate on the dog piercing, but how could it be that no one on PS ever mentioned the capital idea of a tennis bracelet for a pup until now???

Alas, being in the presence of great blingness is sometimes sooo hard! I know--I live on the East Side of Manhattan where large and gorgeous is the norm.

I often find myself staring at people''s hands uncontrollably. Like a ring stalker! I actually wonder if they notice so I try to do it as inconspicuously as possible. There are some whoppers out there!

So many times I find myself wanting to say "Give me your finger...I need to see THAT!". Ooooh, so frustrating!

+1.

Seriously, who does that? Ridiculous

Who pierces their dog''s ears???? Is any one else HORRIFIED by this?

Her ring sounds lovely..it is tricky to get a huge stone to look pretty and not just gaudy...but yeah, not a fan of piercing a dog''s anything...and a bracelet doesn''t seem too safe either, what if her dog ate it, or if it got tangled in something! hasn''t she thought of a diamond studded collar, or neck chain? Or a hair clip? She should use a stuffed animal for display instead of a real dog! I would think her way of advertising would have a negative effect on customers...I know it would turn me off to see a dog with a pierced ear being used as a jewelry model in a store.

This and disgusted. My dog does have cropped ears, but he came that way...we would never have done that on our own and it still makes me sad that someone did that to him. I would not only be horrified that the women did that, but who the heck is her vet?! I would casually try to find out and report them both.

A little OT, but we adopted our Chihuahua, Max, from a Chi rescue org. a few years ago. Max was born without a tail and I am horrified when someone asks me if or why we had his tail cropped! For one thing, Chihuahuas aren't a breed whose tails are typically cropped and on the other hand, I'd never do that to my dog anyway!

Still OT- we now live in Germany where its illegal and never has been done. The looks and questions I get about it on a daily basis are awful. Luckily they then get distracted my his cuteness.

Why report the vet? The vet didn''t pierce the ear, she went to some place in the city. Do you mean report the vet for not demanding that she remove the piercing? I agree that it''s awful, but I don''t think the vet is to blame.
Worse yet--I asked our dog trainer if he''s ever seen dogs with pierced ears before and he said he has, many times.

Cropped ears make me so sad, there are so many Pit Bulls in the shelter where I volunteer with cropped ears. That actually makes me feel even worse for them, as it shows that *someone* had them at one time and paid to crop their ears, but later gave them up.

Oh I''m sure you have a lot of eye candy to see when you''re out and about.
Our area has some serious blingage, as well, DH often has to tell me I''m being too obvious when we''re out and I see a heavily iced woman. It''s great but frustrating!

I know, right?
This could be an entirely new trend!
(Our pup is far too rough and tumble for any type of jewelry, though, I''d have to wear it for her.

sba--I wish those practices were illegal here in the U.S. It really breaks my heart to see cropped ears and tails.

Ooooh- I thought the vet did the piercing which is why I was so shocked! I am glad that isn''t the case- so she went to like a piercing place in the city? That is crazy! I hope it doesn''t become a dog trend
38.gif
Sadly there is nothing anyone can probably do, it just stinks that anyone thinks that is normal to do to a pup!
Darth Vader says a big thank you! He make look cute but he is a little devil...I just came home to find my various uggs all over the apt and ugg insides everywhere in clumps!

Sad that the dog had his ear pierced. I wonder if it was a place specifically for pets. A shop by me sells doggy nail polish!

Not to be a Debby Downer, but my vet once told me that he''s seen poor dogs....tattooed! And not for ID reasons (bad enough) but purely "decorative".

I can''t imagine anything so cruel. It''s hard to even think about

Okay...back to the FUN topic of big bling: A famous actress lives in my building (hint: initials "S.J

) who got engaged a year or so ago. That ring is just breathtaking. I have tried SO HARD to get a good look, but she''s just not someone I can chit-chat with in the elevator, if you know what I mean! It''s probably about 3+ carats (roughly the diameter of a nickel?) on what appears to be the MOST delicate, twisted, rose gold shank you''ve ever seen. Ohhhh, the frustration!
32.gif

Some people are horrified that people eat meat or even keep animals as pets.
But then, in some countries they eat dog.

Some people respect life so much they try to not even step on an ant.
I remember a National Geographic pic that showed rats eating a feast put out for them in a temple.

In some countries cow are sacred, in others we eat them and put their skin on the seats of our cars.
(I remember picking up my Hindu in-laws at the airport. They didn't want to sit on the leather seats and compromised by sitting on our jackets which fortunately were not cow leather.)

We have two dogs and I'd never tattoo or pierce them, but I wouldn't get all bent out of shape is I saw someone else did to theirs.

Nothing's absolute.
It's all relative.

I guess I don't apply my standards to others but try to respect diversity.

Honestly I''m way more horrified when I see a toddler with peirced ears... my dog had a WAY higher pain tolerance than most toddlers I know...
