I couldn't think where to catch you to tell you to talk to you about this, so why not start a WHOLE THREAD?

You were always so supportive when I wrote about how my husband and I would go running with our older son in his BOB and our little dog. Well we fell off the wagon when I got pregnant with number two and stayed firmly off the wagon until this week. Sad because our second son is 13 months now.

I finally got us a DOUBLE running stroller and we started our family runs again. DH pushes the boys and you should see the looks we get! People think he is Hercules pushing that stroller, but I am quick to point out that it is very light and maneuverable :rodent: . I think it evens the running playing field for him to push the boys and I run totally unencumbered

Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you because I remember that you really wanted to do similar family activities once your LO comes along... well, you can even do it with two if you want!

As an aside I am surprised how fit I still was after not running for 22 months. Or really, doing any activity at all. I thought I would be starting at zero again after so long, but I think maybe I am starting at a level 6 or 7 instead. Muscle memory is great.

Our dog on the other hand did not fare so well. When we finished our run the first day, he sat on the ground and refused to walk another step! He is a 12 lb weiner dog, so it was a long run for him.

Hope you are doing well! :wavey:

Congrats Dreamer on getting back out there and for being so fit after your absence!! Hooray for you!!! I'm impressed :appl:

This is awesome, DreamerD! Nonetheless, the image that came to mind when you mentioned your husband pushing the double stroller was of a sweaty, collegiate football player doing grunting drills with the Push-Pull Sled while a gray-haired, middle aged coach stands on it (yelling motivating insults, natch) to weigh it down.

As an impending FTM myself, I have to ask you for info-- is there a period one needs to wait until putting a baby in a jogging stroller? Six months?

Just a note to those who run after pregnancy...support those feet! I ran quite a bit in the last few years after I gave birth to Amelia. That combined with the fact I do not wear shoes in the house (I know Americans do, not sure about Canadians), have given me a case of plantar fasciitis. Pregnancy makes everything loosey goosey, especially your feet, so that's my PSA of the day.

Happy running!

FDL, most jogging strollers do not have a full recline so you can't put newborns in it. I waited until Ethan was almost 3 months, and still propped his head/neck etc up with a newborn car seat insert :http://www.amazon.com/Kiddopotamus-Snuzzler-Complete-Support-Ivory/dp/B000DZS720
You can't RUN with your kiddo until they're MUCH older. My pedi says over 9 months.

Dreamer, Way to go on gettin' out there! We bought a jogging stroller and DH will be in charge of pushing it. I NEVER go running with him because he's MUCH MUCH faster and stronger than I am, but I think with the jogging stroller it might be more even matched :)

ditto, even with the BOB they suggest 6-9 months so there are no spine injuries for the bambinos.

I love my double BOB too Dreamer!

I would not have run with my kids until they were nine months because I would want to make sure they were good and stable. With both we started running when they were 10 - 13 months.

We have tried a lot of things to try and get and stay fit. It became apparent to us that the only way we would excercise was if we could do it together, the kids could come too, and it was free! So that really limits the options. Running it is

DH is faster and stronger, but since we are recreational runners and not racers, he would rather have my company than not. He runs about 10 paces ahead of me and basically yellsd encouragement. And as I said, the only way we actually do any excercise at all is if the whole family can take part. Its too much hassel otherwise. The boys seem to enjoy the ride! We run around my campus through the woods and its a nice 4km route!

We ran for about a year between Hunter and Ryder and I didn't notice any ill effects -- on my feet anyways, I won't get started on the indignities of post-partum excercise :rodent: -- but noted tGal :read:

Well I have always found football players attractive so the image is not far off! The difference is that instead of a crazy coach yelling motivational insults, he has a wiggly 1 year old and a trouble making 3.5 year old to contend with  He has to stop them from bugging each other fairly regularly.

WOOHOOO! You GO, lady!

I am so impressed that you two are running with both of your boys now! That is awesome. (I love the fact that your DH gets to look super strong with that double-stroller, too funny.)

How awesome is it that you kept your fitness level up at a 6 or 7?! Color me impressed again! You also give me hope that I'll be able to do SOMETHING athletic now that I'm feeling a bit better after lazying around for months and months.

You should totally sign up for a 5K, and run it with your boys! My sister and I were humiliated by the parents running a 5K with their jogging strollers a couple years ago. We were huffing and puffing just carrying ourselves through the course, and those mamas just zoomed right by us! You could be the ones shaming all the plain old runners next! TURKEY TROT! TURKEY TROT! :appl:

Awww about your poor little puppy. Our little guy (13 lbs) can't run at all, he can't even hike for long! We always just sling him over our shoulder in a carrier when we take the dogs for a hike. :cheeky: We'll have to find a jogging stroller that has a spot for him in it, too.

I'm so happy you posted this thread! Think about the 5K, I think you guys could rock it!

You go girl! I would LOVE to run with my kiddies but never thought it would be manageable with two little ones. DH uses his running as his alone time (you know besides going to the bathroom and showering!) so I would be on my own. This year on vacation MIL tried running with DS (in a rented BOB) and she struggled (saying it was too heavy/hard to push) but I'm wondering if it was because she was running on the boardwalk?

On a side note, I have a friend with a Dachshund and he hides when she puts on her running shoes!

Just wanted to add a funny story about running with pooches. My sis and I ran the Chicago marathon in 2010. During that summer we'd take our pooch with us on the training runs. Tired dog = good dog and all that. We had to stop taking her on the long runs on the weekend because she refused to go the distance. She tops out at about 7 miles. We found that the hard way when we ran half our run, then she pretty much laid down and refused to go any further. So we had to walk her back, and THEN restart the 12 mile run we were supposed to do that morning....
