Well, you all are doing way better than me-I never even got to see it!

Ditto - I missed it being up too!

I''ve not been able to post on the new version, but I''m sure once the testing is done and 2.0 gets moved back into production, you''ll love the format.

Searching promises to be much easier and more logical than it is now, and from what I did see, the layout is much more modern and refreshed.

I think this version is so much better. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many bugs with the other one, it shouldn''t have even gone online, but I guess it was needed to test it. I applaud the mods for working hard to make it more modern, but it was really hard to read and I think would have had a negative impact on daily reading and posting here....

I was the first post recommendations to improve v2.0 since we are the community and can help improve it. To be honest, I would happy just staying with the old PS and not upgrading. The new version almost makes me less inclined to post. Ignoring the technical challenges with 2.0, the design was executed very poorly. It is not as professional as the old version and using it was painful.

My thoughts are to keep the old design but upgrade certain features as highlighted in the suggestions forum.
1. Keep the user experience and interface design of the old Pricescope. The new one was blah - really bad usability.
2. Keep the Diamond section on the personal profile of v2.0 but we should be able to specify the diamond shape and link to a thread if one existed.
3. Improve the search capabilities. Ours doesn't work too well right now.
4. v2.0 appeared to have some sort of PM capability - I would love to see that come in.
5. Upgrade the forum to a leading forum software such as vBulletin - better search will come with that.
6. Slight update to the banner logo and perhaps the color scheme (but definitely not that crazy bright blue of v2.0 - maybe a pale blue and grey)
7. Make sure the forum width is dynamic to accommodate smaller screen sizes and lower resolutions.
8. Make sure the developer actually knows how to work with stylesheets - skills seemed weak based on the end result.

I think the migration of content was done well.

I could reply in the same way I always did, by clicking on the upper right of someone''s response... not sure what you all are referring to?
yeah,me too.

I bet it will carry over to when they go back to the 2.0 version once the bugs are worked out.

GAH, I am not good with change, and when it doesn''t go well, I get really frustrated, because I don''t know if it''s me and my lack of knowledge or PS and it''s kinks....

i got demoted back to "IDEAL ROCK"
wahh.gif

I liked the new look but had some problems; I couldn't see any photos on the site and could log in but not reply to threads.

ETA: I really like that on the old PS you can hover over a topic and read the first paragraph or so and was sad to see this go in the New PS because I find this feature really helpful.

I don''t want to be mean, but I hated the new PS 2.0. I wish we could just keep this version.

I love the old PS- glad it's up.

I am thinking this is costing big bucks in revenue... Hoping they go back to what works. I support what ever.... Just sayin...

I liked some of the concepts of the new site. I actually started a thread about my new e-ring (but it is gone now).

Things I liked

1) Pictures resized automatically
2) More than one pic could be re-loaded in a post
3) You did not have to rename a pic you loaded twice

Things I did not like

1) When I logged in at work (on a PC vs my mac at home), I could not see any pics I posted, it was like the post was only so long, and if the pics were longer, they got cut off without being able to scroll down
2) The post and the pics were really clustered, it looked like a mess
3) It was really slow

Overall, the site has potential, but clearly needs to have some bugs fixed first.

Hallelujah! We''re back to normal.

I really, really, really did not like the new version. SillyBerry wrote a lovely post explaining things wrong with the site that I seconded mightily ... three or four iterations ago. My short version:

1) Too slow

2) Too contrasty

3) Wherefore my rollover?

4) Wherefore my sign-in key, and my reply button?

I could go on. What I am left with is ... if it ain''t broke, why fix it?

Again, another YES!!!!!!!

Aren't we being a tad rude?

I mean we are guests here.
It is their site to do with as they please.
I'm sure they put a lot of work into 2.0.

I say, feel free to make suggestions but don't whine too loudly.
My 2 cents.
Now go ahead and kill me; I'll don my fire-proof flame suit.

And while I'm at it, here's my suggestion, allow PMs.

We're their guests, we're their customers, we're their market. PS makes money off of authorized dealers, advertising, page views, etc. I view this less as "ungrateful whinging" and more as "constructive criticism" along the lines of: "I love you and want you to make lots of money, OFF OF ME. So, please, don't make it harder for me to waste all of my leisure time and a little too much of my working time on here, mmmkay?"

ETA: To soften, this *is* said with love and appreciation for all the hard work that is being done. I am just wondering whether it *needs* to be done in the first place, when the site is already very good at what it does ....

Not being rude if we post with kindness, etc,,,

We are guests here, and am hoping to be one for a long time... My seat is reserved .

I will see what they do, but will always voice my opinion as they have asked me to.

I have been here a long time Kenny. You don't trump me or anyone else..

Why do you have to be king of the sand box..

Left out my last remark. I am done.

Kal, just one opinion.

Not ruling.
Not king.
Not trumping.

Sheesh.

I guess I''m in the minority...I liked the new modern look of the new version! There were some GREAT features I noticed just when I was clicking around (before it went into turtle speed) that I''m excited to see be used. I understand that it isn''t the easiest to use, but I think once everyone has had a bit more time to explore, it will become second nature. I know when I first joined PS I was confused as all get out trying to figure out what to do...and think about how many times new members post questions like, "how do I add a quote when replying??" When regular posters have been doing that for years! I have faith the smart members of this forum will see the logic behind some things in the new version.
It felt a bit more "bloggish" and I''m sure we all will be able to help the admins along the way with features from both versions.
I don''t know...I feel like the admins have worked sooooo hard on the "improved version" and if we all just keep saying, "I hate it" then we won''t help make PS better! I''m sure everyone will have parts they like once the new site has a chance :) let''s try to keep being constructive and not hating on everything!

I''m an eternal optimist. Haha!

I agree this site works, but there are plenty of improvements that can be made. Especially for us Mac people. The new site was much more mac friendly, and it did look like PM's were an option which is something I would at least like to try.

I think the mods have realized the best solution. Use the site that works better. Once the new site works better than this one, they should change over. As I said before, it has a lot of potential, it is just not ready for prime time.

I don''t think we are being rude but the feedback here is pretty loud and clear. I hope we make some of these changes before the next release - I wanted to be blown away. Ok .. now this comment might be really rude but I have doubts in the developer''s capability to do design. He/she may be skilled in coding but design .. not so sure.

I have a mac and saw the new sight and you have me curious.
What did you feel was more mac-friendly about the new site?

I like the colors and format of the old... it''s too bad they didn''t just add a few new features without changing the whole thing.

I am hoping that they will switch to dynamic width though... it''s not a hard fix.

Looks like kenny and I are sort of on the same page, but said it a bit differently.
I know the admins want us to share what we don''t like about the new version, and I also have to say that I feel like just saying, "why fix something that''s not broken?" doesn''t necessarily help.

It was an outdated format if you ask me, and the new features will just give us more to love. I''m sure formating issues will be worked out.

And I guess ill add this too: I have an emotional attachment to the content in the site, and the forum posters. It could be harder to read, post, etc. But as long as the speed issues is worked out, ill work around it to keep getting all of the support and knowledge I glean from being a poster and lurker in the community.

Whew. I feel bettere now

When I joined PS I had a PC, and it was so much easier to post. I used to do a lot more with the posts, like put things in italics, highlight, ect. When I would put in the smilies''s they would always go where my cursor was (vs the end of the post). But with the Mac, you actually have to use HTML, which I am not good it. On the new site, it looked like no HTML was needed, much like the PC format of pricescope. But I only got to play for a few minutes, so probably not the best analysis.

firey - I think they want to have all of the pictures uploaded - it used to be that you could html photos in but they''d delete the posts and then they changed it so you couldn''t. It has to do with maintaining the long term worth of this site. That someone in 2 years from now can read a thread and see relevant photos in spite of whomever posting them removing them from their photobucket account. Once you upload the photos, they belong to the site and become part of the permanent record of this site unless you specifically ask admin to remove them and they agree.

I kinda agree with this... I am less inclined as well. I have a routine of a few things I check and PS got bumped to last yesterday. It was a mixture of I want to be there but ::groan:: its a pita so I''ll do it last.

Agreed, charbie. I''ve had facebook for 4 or 5 years and every time they change it, I bitch and moan to myself that the new version is stupid and hard to navigate. By the time a week has gone by, I can''t even remember what the old version was like.

Kinda like getting a new cell phone. It''s so frustrating for the first few days ("how do a make a freakin'' call?!?") and then using it becomes second nature.

I''ll be an optimist along side you, my dear.

Since I'm the one who spoke the offending phrase ... (and, this is neither meant in a catty fashion, nor is it imputing any such thing to you, Charbie, since I think of you as one of PS's sweetest people - I just feel okay with spearheading the IiABDFi approach), shall I explicate?

PS means a lot to me. The community, the knowledge, the general atmosphere. But if it's impossible to navigate, slow to load, and makes my eyeballs bleed, I can picture my time here tapering off. I can also picture new people who have no attachment to the community getting the info. they need and heading for the hills.

The old/current version of PS has a few glitches - the lack of PMs, the inability to easily load multiple pictures, the incompatibility with Macs. But the new version doesn't really seem to be working for anybody: I've yet to hear anybody say, "Oh, thank god: those rollovers were driving me NUTS. That readable 12 point font? HORRID. I'm so *pleased* they decided to eschew the easy toolbar navigation!" Why throw the baby out with the bathwater when it would be easier to keep the old format and just add a few new features?
