We found this little guy tied to a tree on an empty lot, adjacent to a restaurant in Goreme, Turkey. He was so, so, SO gorgeous!

He was obviously only recently taken from his mother because he tried to nurse on every inch of me. My head nearly exploded from the cuteness. To make up for my lack of nursing ability, I brought him tomatoes and watermelon pieces, which he sucked dry. Because we visited him multiple times, he would try to bray when he saw us coming - but being so young, it came out all muddled and broken, like he was going through puberty!

What a cutie. Just like a baby--head too big for body.

Aww, why did someone leave him? How sad.

He is adorable!!

Oh donkey - I love looking at this photo of him! I have no idea why he was left where he was, or taken from his mother too early, but we did what we could for him. He had a water bowl from someone else (that we refilled) and there were scraps of fruit and things left for him that weren't from us as well. I know our hotel owner asked around and found out that 'a very rich man' owned him, and perhaps also the hotel next to where he was tied. He bought the donkey for his daughter (? mistress? There started to be some things lost in translation here, lol).

In the meantime, we've made it home, sweet home. My menagerie of animals is THRILLED to see us, as the house sitter seems to have only kept them alive, not spoiled. Poppy is safe, and still covered in dried donkey spit.

Edited: yes, astra, long sleeves. We were in Cappadocia and they had a freak cold snap. Normally around 95 there, but on two of our days it was only in the 60s with strong winds.
