Wedding No pis, but...

I had my first fitting today, and I'm feeling SO much better. I tried on the dress when it came in earlier in the summer, and it was just huge. The bodice was ginormous, and it was ridiculously long and had lost all semblance of shape that the sample had. Due to the materials involved (organza micro-pleats with lace tiers) I was just paranoid that nothing could be done to fix it.

So it took about 1.5 hrs to get it pinned correctly, but provided the seamstress can actually sew it as she's pinned it (it will involve cutting across the silk organza pleats and reattaching, plus there's some lace detail) I think the dress is going to look fantastic! I took my friend with me, and she said afterward that after seeing me in the pinned version, she was really excited and thought I couldn't have chosen a better dress!

My next fitting is in a month - we didn't do the bustle today, because of all of the complexity of alterations for the skirt. Each tier will be taken up proportionately, and they're adding a small petticoat to help fluff it out to the sample look. Fingers crossed, but I'm actually feeling a little excited because I *think* I know how I will look on my wedding day (and I LIKE IT!)

Thanks! I thought about taking pics, but it''s clearly pinned up in many ways, and so I thought I would wait until the second fitting, when the preliminary alterations on all the layering has been done. Then, I realized my next round of alterations won''t be until after Labor Day! Ruh roh. Hopefully I''ll have some super good pics to show then

I took my friend J with me (who you met on Saturday - the really bubbly one). When I had showed her the pics from June, she agreed to go to the salon to support me if there was something really un-fixable. She was great, offered constructive feedback and in many ways steered the seamstress and ultimately the owner into a solution that I think will look good (we are adding some crinoline plus decreasing the width of each layer proportionately to cut down on length without losing the overall shape of the dress). I got a really sweet email from her afterward saying she''s so excited and thinks it''s a great dress - yay! Fingers crossed that the alterations work.

OMG, just reading your post gives me deja vu. Actually it's more like post traumatic stress/dress disorder.

I am so glad that you are feeling better about the dress. It's so distressful to have the dress come in and not look anything like the way the sample dress did. It's downright scary.

As you probably know from our dress drama, they can do amazing things with the alterations.

Now you can enjoy the rest of your wedding planning.

Well, this is annoying. I got a v/m today that they want to add an extra $100 to their "flat" alterations fee that I paid yesterday due to the difficulty of the alterations work. I mean, the''ve got me over a barrel, but come on. A flat fee is just that. If I only needed the skirt hemmed an inch, would they refund part of the alterations fee? Nah, I didn''t think so.

So I''m feeling incredibly bitter (not only did I get my dress at the salon, but TWO hair pieces, earrings and a belt) and I just expected to be treated a little better. Fair do''s, I know it''s a series of difficult alterations ahead of them, but it''s also not my fault that the dress came in massively long.

I haven''t returned their call, but when I do, I will ask to speak with the owner. It just seems not right.

That''s rubbish that they''re adding on an extra charge. A flat fee should definitely be just that. Could you price around for alterations elsewhere if they don''t get rid of the charge? Or buy the extra items elsewhere. I''m dying to see pictures of your dress though.

Hi bee! I''m totally paranoid to take the dress elsewhere, because it is so complex. I''m not even sure they can get it right - not because of their skill, but because of everything that needs to be done and the materials involved. And all the other items have already been bought

In the scheme of things, it''s just another $100 - but emotionally, it feels wrong. D thinks I''m injecting emotion into what is a business decision, but it''s an emotional time! I really trust them and totally love the owner, so it just feels a bit wrong now.

Ok, here''s a pic of how they''re going to do the veil. I was originally going to wear it as a traditional mantilla, but I preferred the look of it slightly folded over on me. You can also see the dress pinned up, which is why I didn''t bother having any pics of the dress taken. So, this really shows nothing at all, but here you go

And here''s a pic of my disgustoid hair with the hair flower that came in - I love it and think it will look beautiful with washed and styled hair

Anyway, that''s my reflection in the mirror, so you can kind of see how the bodice is now fitted (YAY). They are also going to add boning to the bodice to smooth everything out. It had like zero support!

The top is alencon lace, and the skirt is organza micropleats with alencon lace tiers.
