Nike used to make a foldable shoe called the pocket knife and when they were discontinued a friend of mine bought every pair he could find. Sadly he's on his last pair and can't find anything he likes nearly as much. The soles are completely flexible and a have a good rubber tread. Oh resourceful PSers, what do you recommend?!

ETA: Oh he!! -- can anyone see the picture? I have problems with the new PS and this is the first time I've tried to post a pic but I don't think it worked. Here's the link just in case... http://www.kicksaholic.com/wp-content/u ... -knife.jpg

They're ugly, but those Vibram shoes are probably the closest thing he's going to find. Super flexible sole, tread and protection on the bottom. I tried them on this weekend and they were really comfortable. Sorry for your friend!

Nike Frees have a flexible sole, but they are built up pretty high and have an arch in there as well. That's why we don't wear them anymore.

I don't remember the style name, but I have a pair of leather pumas that have a flat sole like the Pocket Knife shoes and are extremely flexible. Puma makes a huge range, but many of their shoes are nice and flexible.

Haven, do you mean the 5 finger ones or is there something more "traditional" with the super flexible sole? I just tried to search but maybe I overlooked it?

I meant the five finger shoes. They're hideous, I know.

I'll ask DH for more recommendations later. He and all of his biomechanics nerds, ahem, I mean friends, wear flexible shoes. It's what happens when you study gait and the mechanics of the foot and body for a living. If you only knew how many hours I've spent traveling to shoe stores in search of the perfect flexible shoe . . .

Your friend could do what some of DH's colleagues do--just walk around barefoot. Everywhere. I wish I was joking.
