Ok, I''ll start off admiting I am a little last minute...it''s 8:30am where I am on New Year''s Eve. DH and I are staying home this year, since going out is so darn expensive. If you stay home with the kiddies, what do you do to make it special and fun?

Well...so...maybe we can gin up some interesting ideas real quick.

The age of the kids is obviously of some consideration; ours are 8 & 12.

In past years, we DID go to a local First Night (at least in bigger cities...family oriented celebrations, modest cost, some inside & some outside activities, no alcohol, etc.) but we''re not so close to one this year, we did just spend the weekend being a DC tourist, and we''re staying in, too.

Especially with our older son in middle school, and with associated significant homework, staying in to "chill" is something I can more especially appreciate.

Though my younger son''s friend''s mother spoke wisely the other day...saying she limits "screen" (of any kind) to 1/2 hour a day, typically...we don''t (with some guilt). I think our boys are aware there''s a cartoon marathon, they got a Wii this past month...and I wouldn''t be surprised if we have something like Chinese delivery, popcorn, and maybe a mystery snack (?) close to midnight. The boys WILL be up at 12. Then in bed right after. School is the day after next.

But...per my first line...I''m always up for a good idea. I''ll be all ears with you.

wE were going to have our friends who have a 2 year old son (our son is 3 and our daughter is 3 months) come over for chinese food, beer & karoake, but our son is sick....so they are staying home (they live a block over, so no driving) and just my dh and I will get chinese takeout, have some beer & we rented the movie 23.

oooh...fasten your seatbelts. LOL.

OK, commercial break.

I saw this at lunch.

It's a Twilight Zone marathon, and we're into the second episode.

Not sure how much longer we'll be watching.

See ya.

P.S. Sci Fi Channel.

And...moving on to Space Balls....

We went out for hibachi and then drove around a bit to see any of the Christmas lights that are still up. My kids are 6, 12 and 15. We are home now, little one in bed, and we are watching the 100 anniversary of the ball drop in Times Square. We will toast the NY with them with sparkling cider and maybe watch a movie, but I am pretty tired. We just spent the weekend up in our house in the mountains and arrived home this afternoon, so I am still a bit tired. But this is our tradition with them, and they love it. I would go out if I had a great party to go to but I am not that interested otherwise.

We went to a friend''s home for an informal party and took our youngest child since others were bringing children, too. We came home just before midnight to hopefully avoid the drunk drivers! We got to see the ball drop at home.
