New DSLR owner *beams*

Hi all!

After a long search and many days/nights of internet searching and visits to Best Buy I GOT MY FIRST DSLR!! My husband actually bought it and surprised me with it at my Master''s Graduation last week. I haven''t had too much time to play, but I know there are other DSLR lovers around here so I thought I would share.

Here''s what I got:

Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera
18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens


In true fashion I have already ordered some Hoya Filters and this lens....

Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens

I haven''t taken many pics yet (none of the sparklies) but here are a couple of contributions:

what a great shot! That was one of the camera I *hope* to get for christmas or bday. The picture quality is phenomenal without breaking the bank.

Extravagant? Yes. But, I imagine it will last a longtime (dad got his first film SLR in 1979 and still uses it). It will have to be my new hobby now I am thru with school to help me stay sane.

Oooh, welcome to the D90 club, Iwanna! DH and I just bought ours last month, and I''m in total love. Half my X-mas wish list is camera accessories.

Congrats IWP! I love having a DSLR, although I am still learning my way around the basic D40. I looked at the D80/90 and my hands are too small for it! So maybe someday I''ll upgrade to the D5000 or its next manifestation.

YAY IWPO! The D90 is a sharp little camera, and I know you will love the 50mm - mine is macro and it is absolutely my favorite lens. I look forward to more pics!

Thanks all! I am soooo excited and I am in awe as how fast this thing is versus the good old point and shoot. I am definately a beginner so all this info about apeture, f-stops etc might as well be greek to me!

Good news though...my new lens is HERE. Can''t wait to get off work and try it out!

Congrats! You''ll love it!

We have the D80 (previous version), and it takes great pics. One lense we bought years ago for our SLR camer was a 100-300 Quantray lense, and it works on the D80 too. That thing still takes the best pics of all the lenses we''ve tried!

Yay, IWPO!!!!! Just got my D90 with the same kit lens for my birthday!!!! I''m anxious to see what you think of the 50mm - I''ve had the 60mm AF-S recommended to me for my food photography, so I''m thinking about going with that one. Let me know what you think of it''s macro abilities with jewelry.
