Neighbour barking dog ven

OK I am going to lose my mind

, our neighbour have a dog that barks everytime we go outsiide on our patio, hang up our washing, come home, go out, !!!!!!!!!! It barks when the winds blows, when the birds sing, it barks all the Bl###dy time.

the poor dog is bored, it is never walked and it is actually very friendly. I have talked the neighbours about it and they really dont care, they said that the previous people who lived in our house also complained - and left it at that. I have had the dog over in our yard for visits (my idea) for a few hours, at least 4 times, I have given it treats accross the fence and made friends with it, and he calmed down a little, but I have to always talk to their stupid dog and tell it to be quiet, they NEVER tell it to be quite. It is driving me insane. I guess the next step is for my husband to go over there and for us to formaly complain again to them and see what they do and then to take it to the council, but really dont people care anymore. I would be soooo embarrassed.

to top it off we are getting a puppy soon and I dont want her picking up bad habits from this dog - and I do love dogs, but this one, I am at my wits end with its owners. I have just come home, barking, barking barking......so here I am with a glass of wine in hand and venting away...... i really didnt want to have the wine, but sanity must come first

I dont know, is it unreasonable for a dog not to always bark - it is beyond rude, and they just dont care!!!!!!!!!! Ohh, that felt a bit better thanks for the vent. to top it off the neighbour is a SAHM like me so she should have time to do somehting about it, or even be apologetic and work on it. My husband works long hours so isnt subjected to it everyday .....I pay my morgage and am to afraid to go outside and enjoy my place as each time I will have to deal with the dog.

Can you contact the county about it? Our county will send them a letter stating what the problem is. I think
they get so many warnings then they may get fined or something.

Thats a horrible situation to have to live in. The poor dog just wants some attention and cant get it from its

Everybody here has a couple of dogs and most are quiet or far enough away so that a little barking is not too bad.

I know what it''s like to have a dog neighbor that neglects theirs and lets it bark continuously. Plus as an owner of 3 dogs myself I am horrified when my dogs bark past 9 at night but it''s generally at someone walking by or a stray dog running wild. There have been a few nights that I run outside to collect my dogs at 3 am because the strays are hanging out. During the day it''s not an issue because most people are not home and there is no one located directly near my dog pens. I bring them in almost every night and they''re not really barkers anyhow. One of my dogs I didn''t even know barked until we put up the pens and he stayed out for periods of time, so we got a bark collar for him which he promptly tore to tiny pieces. We have no idea how he got it off. He''s a house dog anyway and never sleeps out.

My neighbor is another story in the mornings, she has 4 little yappers that start at 6am and do not quit until she gets home in the afternoon. I''ve finally tuned them out but at first it was awful. Years ago my neighbor ("base" duplex housing) got a German sphepard................oh, that was awful. Completely neglected it, let it bark all the time and never spent anytime with it. They got it after seeing how well behaved and QUIET my dogs were. I took a muzzle over after (I had my baby) which was the end of that friendship since they no longer took the more suttle hints. Thankfully they moved not long after that.

Start with the association then move up to formal noise complaints with the police. (my dh hates those calls but it''s part of the job)

My dogs did not bark at neighbours until my neighbour brought home a new puppy. Ever since then, they bark like *crazy* whenever I let them outside (they''re all inside dogs) and he''s outside. The neighbour gets mad and yells at my dogs, making it all worse, and has banged on the fence and even thrown things at them.

I just don''t get it. Of course they now bark at *him*, because he''s been such an idiot. His dog doesn''t bark at all, but he tends to leave it outside for hours. I get angry when he gets angry because my dogs should be allowed to go outside for 15 minutes every few hours without being egged on. Big mess. Sometimes I don''t care. If you get a puppy, it''s pretty much guaranteed it will bark at this dog, or else cause the dog to bark more. That''s just the way it goes. I don''t know if complaining will help at this point for you. You have been *wonderful* in trying to get to know this dog and have it calm down. If you get a dog and it barks at this dog, your complaint probably won''t be taken seriously by this guy. He sounds a lot like my neighbour.

I *always* get after my dogs for barking when it''s after 9pm. Wow. As I''m typing this, my neighbour is "barking" at my dogs....

Are you my neighbor? hahah. I am in the exact same situation! It is ridiculous, and really- there''s not much to do.
For us though, we have the solace of knowing they are moving soon (yayayay!)

In regards to your puppy question, I wouldn''t worry about it too much. It is NOT too much to ask for, for a dog not to bark- you train it not to..its pretty simple, actually.
Dogs like to please people- so saying no will teach them.

I speak from experience (and I never put much thought into training, we just didn''t want him eating people food, and we didn''t want him to bark.
We moved to our house, and puppy was under a year...and he paid no attention to those 2 loud barking dogs (TWO!!!! DAY AND NIGHT BARKING DOGS), and to this day doesn''t really bark, after a year we got a second dog. Same thing, they pay no attention to them at all.
It worked out pretty good- you just need to keep an eye on the puppy, and make sure they know barking is bad!
Its easy to just "let it slide" but thats when it gets worst!

Sorry to hear this--we''re also in a similar situation.

Our neighbors have a small dog--I think it''s a daschund, I''ve never actually seen it outside of the house--that barks incessantly. The thing is, they also have a new baby, so I can''t imagine why they''re okay with a barking dog when it wakes up the baby.

It''s annoying because every single morning and evening when I take our dogs out, I hear the yap, yap, yapping of the dog next door. I think it even annoys my dogs.

I don''t expect owners to train their dogs not to bark--if you have a vocal dog, you have to work with it. I do believe, however, that any dog can be trained to stop barking when a command is given.

I wish I had a solution for you--like sparkly, we''re planning to move and that should be the end of it. I would not worry about a puppy picking up on bad behavior (at least not barking) from another dog. Our first dog will bark if somebody rings the doorbell (though "quiet" shuts him up), but our second dog just couldn''t care less. When he hears the doorbell, he wags his tail and goes to the door. Our youngest just isn''t a vocal dog and unless he suddenly became insecure and barked out of fear, I don''t think anything will change it.

Don''t know how to fix it. If you teach your puppy how to behave, it should be fine. (Barking is okay in the right place and time -- like if someone is trying to get in the house.)

I''ve got one of those neighbors too. He leaves his dogs (golden labs) out at night and they bark. ALL NIGHT LONG.
Okay, so the dog actually gets tired and goes to bed around 4:30 to take an hour long nap.
We spent last summer sleeping in the guest room because we couldn''t stand it. The other neighbors have already spent years complaining.
The owner isn''t neglectful. He walks them and plays with them and feeds them and talks to them and.....
The problem is that he ENCOURAGES THEM TO BARK.
He went so far as to start barking (literally barking) at our dog to get her to do it too.

We''re getting new windows in the bedroom (double pane is not thick enough) and adding more insullation to the walls.

Lucky for us he keeps his dogs inside during the day so we don''t have to listen to them then.

i live in an apartment complex that only allows small dogs, so i feel your pain, although i''m not home most of the day, so at least i can get away from it while at work

i have a feeling that some of my neighbors assume that since they have small dogs, that they don''t need to walk them, they go out, leave their dogs on the patio and they bark all the live long day, i can hear my neighbors yelling ''shut up!'' all the time, but how is a dog to understand?

the worst are the howling dogs, it''s like i''m on some sort of hunt with elmer fudd
