DD's Spanish Honor Society has needy families assigned to them for whom they are buying Christmas presents. There are 3 people in DD's assigned family, but she is responsible for getting a present for the 30 year old mother. She has no other info other than her age and that she has a 4 year old son. Other people are getting a present for the father and the son.

Any suggestions as to a great (reasonably priced) present(s) for a 30 year old mother? She needs to bring the gift(s) in by the 16th of Dec. Thanks for any help you can give!

So they didn''t specify hat/socks etc?

If not and this is purely for a fun gift, I''d do some nice lotions and soap and/or a gift card to Walmart or somewhere like that. For the child, coloring books and crayons are gender neutral and inexpensive.

I agree, lotions and soaps and etc are always a good generic choice as everyone bathes haha.

A little bit riskier might be a simple necklace, nothing to flashy though.

What about some nice mugs, I find those are always a good generic christmas gift.

Scarf, winter or fashion scarf, easy since one size fits all.

Fun cooking items. Like a cookie pan and one of those neat gourmet scone kits or something (nice because they usually have most dry ingredients included).

You didn't specify the budget but here are my suggestions.

-- scarf
-- gloves
-- wallet/change purse
-- mini backpack
-- tote bag

Don't give a gift card. Not everyone has transportation to shopping centers and she'd probably end up buying something for her child or husband anyway.

I also find kitchen supplies to be a very impersonal gift for a person in need. The people that are getting gifts through an organization will appreciate gifts that are for them only and not a family gift or household items.

I have participated in gift-giving programs where you buy for the whole family and the organization usually offers suggestions, such as make sure you give a personal gift that is specifically for that person, not a gift for them to share.

- Scarf
- A set of candles (it''s Christmas time after all)
- A wallet
- A pair of earrings (a bit risky, though)

I'd get her a Barnes and Noble or a Borders gift certificate. They have music, books, coffee. It's a nice gift most people can use. Dunno, just thinking of things I'd like. Maybe a nice book?

I love the baking mix and pan idea. TJ Max has a nice selection of both. At least the one near me does (it has a gormet food section).

I''d go with a nice cashmere scarf/hat/gloves - luxurious and practical, one-size-fits all.

How about a lovely brooch? Simple but fashion, fits to the dress.

Bath & Bodyworks gift set with a nice Bath Robe and good book. Twilight, perhaps.

Giftcards would be my suggestion :)

Giftcards would be my suggestion :)

Mine too, although I would get it to somewhere unique rather than Walmart (like a nice restaurant in the area or to a spa or something).

Considering they are a needy family, I would try to find a balance between something practical or useful and something that would be a "treat" for someone who usually puts the needs of others first. I don''t mean to offend anyone, but I know that personally I have so much bath and body stuff and candles that a lot of it doesn''t get used, so stuff like that would seem like a waste to me.

Hmmm...maybe a gift voucher for a photography place for them to get family photos taken?

Thanks for all of your suggestions. DD and I are going out this afternoon to look for presents.
