I need your help once more. The last recommendation I got for 1 yr old boy was great.(The book was well received.)
NOW two more ideas please.. One just had a baby and one more in August.
Someone suggested to get a gift for a Mom instead? as they could use it more?

What would you buy. They are not my friends ,so I really don''t know them well and definitely don''t want to get them something they already have. Pricescope''s members are always full of great ideas so give me one or two more please and thank you.

I usually give something silver from Tiffany and have it engraved with the baby''s monogram [spoon, rattle, cup, etc.].

I usually do both. Mom will get a gift card for something relaxing, like a massage, and baby gets clothes, blankets, etc. Anything you buy for the baby is really for mom anyway - she is the one that uses it FOR the baby, so you will want to get something in her taste.

Thanks DB: Its a good idea
Thanks MP:
"so you will want to get something in her taste."
Good point but I really don''t know their taste so the only option would be gift certificate?

I always get something for the baby, but for the mom some of the things i have done are to cook a couple of meals with side dishes that she could freeze and just reheat for a week or two, and the other thing I have done is come over in the morning and let mom take a shower and do some laundry for her,run some errands, take her other children off her hands like taking them to the park or Chuckie Cheese''s. I found that these gifts were much appreciated, especially in the first few weeks after bringing the new baby home.

I think its always a lovely idea to buy the mother a little gift. She has done all the hard work

Ditto! No new mother feels like cooking big meals right away, so I usually make a dinner that can be frozen (lasagna or casserole) and bring the baby something. I think the gift card is a good idea also, but they might not be able to get away/or feel up to going for a while.

always something for the baby like a butter soft blanket or have one made for them (as a mom of 3 I LOVED the hand made gifts). If this is the first child then you can never have too many of the essentials like baby wipes, pampers, BALMEX!, ect..you can get a bunch of those things and put in a basket...or you can give some baby books..never too early to start their book collection. GC to babies r us or buy buy baby are great too...or even AMazon since she could get what she needs for the baby.

As for a gift for the mom you really don''t have too BUT invite her out one day for lunch or bring lunch too her. WHen I had my son last Oct. some moms from school came over with lunch. I LOVED the adult conversation and lunch...but at the same time I was home with the baby sleeping in the next room.

I would have LOVED to have someone do what Soocool suggested about watching the baby/kids so mom can shower or do whatever. Better yet, watch them so mom can shower and go get a massage or mani/pedi or something fun!

I like this idea, too. I took dinner over to my best friend a few weeks after she had her baby with a movie, and in less than two minutes into the film both mom and dad were asleep. So I just watched the little guy and patted his back when he got fussy so they could sleep. I plan on doing this with her second baby, too - the 4 year old probably wouldn''t mind the attention!

I was thinking something in her baby registry if she has one, so you know she likes it - if not, you could always ask her if she has a particular theme or color scheme

Very thoughtful Monkeypie! It would be a blessing to the older one too, when the new baby comes! Even to stop by and take him/her out for ice cream or to the park or something. Mom and dad did that a few times w/London when Trapper was born, and I think it helped ease the transition, so she didn''t feel like she was losing much attention.
