Need some ideas what gift to buy for 1 YR old Birthday?

Need some PS help please. What gift to get for 1YR old boy . Its my physiotherapist ( who I see on regular basis) son and I have no clue what would be appropriate? Thanks

Scarleta, books are always nice. I loved reading books to my nephew when he was 1 and still do. He liked "Goodnight Moon" and "Chicka chicka Boom boom" at that age.

What about a gift certificate to Target or toy store? I think a book would be nice w/a gift receipt; I bet they would be moved by your sweet gift.

I just asked this question last week. I decided to get a growth chart from amazon.com along with a $50 gift certificate so the mom can decide what he needs most. I thought the growth chart would be fun and they have some really cute ones like one that was based on "the wild things."
It''s hard to think of anything if you don''t have kids of your own.

Hi Scarleta - I have had good luck buying presents using ideas from the Oppenheim Toy award winners (they have platinum awards for the best toys) and they do it by age group - always helpful to me, even w/ kids it is hard to buy for a different age bucket than mine. Hi, scarleta! I'm a mom and I always do books. I think Skippy is right on target. (Gee what a surprise. Finding Skippy on target? That's like finding sand on a beach!) At any rate, one year-olds don't have a lot of books; just get a book for a slightly older age child and you'll be fine. I get some "Henry and Mudge" books, even for babies. I figure it's never too early to start them off on their collections. You could always give the child one nice hardcover book, but I always give a few paperbacks instead. That's just my style...but then, again, I have been doing this with the kids of friends. If I were giving a gift to the child of a professional, I might want to go with a nice hardback .

The first Henry and Mudge book is always a good book with which to start. If you want to give two books (I don't know how expensive they are), I'd give Henry and Mudge and the Bedtime Thumps. In fact, if the books are very expensive and you can only give one, I might give that one anyway. That one's my favorite!

I just bought my one year old niece the FridgeFarm magnets from Leapfrog. My 1 year old son love's ours. I love them b/c it's keeps him occupied while i'm trying to cook dinner/unload the dishwasher etc. Any of the Leapfrog toys for 12 month olds are great and I highly recommend them.

i also always just give a gift receipt when giving b-day gifts to kids but there are many times you just don't know if they have the item or not.

Yes Mrssalvo: including gift receipt is a must just in case they need to return it.
