Anyone know of any? I found the Brighton necklace and bracelet sets, but thought some of you might know of something better. My dad passed away this year, and he and my mom planted a butterfly garden together in their backyard very shortly before he died. She''s very sentimental about monarchs in particular, and they seem to bring her some kind of comfort. Unfortunately, I have a wedding coming up in February and do not have a large budget. She''s more into costume-type jewelry anyway, but I was hoping for something that she can keep forever. Any ideas you have would be GREATLY appreciated, since I''d like to have something in time for Christmas and just can''t seem to find anything. Thanks in advance!

I think an enamel pendant would be lovely. Enamel over silver is not expensive and you can even get it custom made very reasonably, since artisan enamel is always done on a one by one basis.

For example:

What a sweet idea.

What a sweet idea, Kelli. My father and I share the monarch butterfly thing as well. He's been ill with cancer for the past several years (currently in remission), he was diagnosed at age 64, hence my screenname.

Wonder if you could work with Whiteflash and have them create a pendant or something for you? They've done great custom work in the past, from what I've seen posted by PS members.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I did manage to find some more things last night after I posted this. I would LOVE to have Whiteflash, or another of the vendors here make something, but unfortunately I don''t have the time or the budget. One of the things I did find was a piece of handmade sterling silver jewelry that had an actual piece of (naturally deceased) monarch wing enclosed in glass in a locket-type thing. Does that sound good to you? It was surprisingly pretty.

Glad to know your father is in remission, Monarch64. I hope he stays well! Unfortunately, my dad was only 53 and died suddenly of cancer. No one knew he had cancer until the autopsy came back.

He got what he thought was a stomach virus on Thursday, and passed on Sunday. While it was a HORRIBLE shock, I can at least be thankful he didn''t suffer long. Part of my wedding budget will be going to some kind of cancer research.

Why does that make you sad? Every piece of jewelry I found with wings in it had a long explanation that no butterflies were harmed, that all wings are from naturally deceased butterflies. They have pretty short lifespans and butterfly farms will send the wings to the artists. Why the

Thanks Kelli. I''m sorry to hear your father passed so suddenly. I think the locket type jewelry with fragments of wings enclosed are really pretty. And it''s really nice that part of your budget will be donated to cancer research. I understand the budget concern re. having something made by WF...I hope you find something you really, really love that fits within your budget. Take care.

Around here, iridescent blue butterflies are nearly extinct because of trapping for their wings, to decorate all sorts of knick-knacks. Almost all of them state that no butterlfies were harmed, so I take that statement with a huge grain of salt.

Thanks ladies. Although I''d like to think they really are being ethical, maybe I''ll avoid anything with wings just to be on the safe side. In that case, I''m not really sure what I''ll do. I''ve found a lot of things, but nothing I really love yet. Thanks for your help anyway!

Here are a couple of pendants. My favorite are the last two.

Wow thank you butterfly! There are a lot of pretty options to consider. One reason I liked the ones with the wings was that they actually really looked specifically like monarchs, which is what she loves the most. I have to just choose something soon, and I''ll let you know what I pick. Thanks again:)
