When it rains it pours. SO and I woke up this morning and found his truck broken into. They stole his gun and camera and some gun shells and went through everything in his trucke. I''m fuming

and so distraught for SO

rule of thumb: 1-never leave a gun in a vehicle unless you are in said vehicle 2-never leave ammo in a vehicle unless you are in said vehicle.......sorry this is how you started your day.

Dust?

For your boyfriend who is so irresponsible that he left not only a firearm, but ammunition in his vehicle unattended?

I do agree with this however I know that several people in my area will mount a gun rack on the inside of their pickup by the back window. I''m sorry this happened and don''t forget that you NEED to report this to the police ASAP if you have not already done so.

Sorry but why would you leave anything of value in your car?! Especially a gun and ammo? If you value your possessions, rule of thumb, bring it in the house or put it in the trunk. But what''s scary is now someone who may not have a firearms license will have a gun!

where I come from, gun racks and guns left in trucks during hunting season are very common. Not to mention that at night with a tinted vehicle no one SHOULD have been able to see it. I was more hoping for dust that they might find the person, there were 3 other car break ins in our neighborhood last night. ... but I can see that I won''t get that dust here, you guys are more worried that we were "irresponsible'' enough to leave them in there...even though it makes a bit more sense to be prepared in a hunter''s world. But thanks.

I''m sorry DF, I hope they find him!

I''m so sorry this happened - I really hope they find whoever broke into the car.

I guess I''m not getting the need for dust either. No one was hurt and I''m sure your boyfriend has insurance, right? Plus I have to ditto Katy-yikes to some criminal having a free gun and ammo!

You''re not the only one who does it, but the whole dust thing has gotten out of control. People used to ask for dust when something important happened-illness, job interviews, etc. Now getting a few things stolen warrants a bunch of strangers sending out prayers/positive vibes/whatever? I think there should be an official PS dust policy put into place to curtail the rampant dust abuse!

*Thread jack* Then what is dust for? I think it''s great for job interviews, especiallly in this economy.

So do I! (See above.) I said it used to be for important things, like illness, job interviews, etc. I guess stolen stuff doesn''t seem that important to me. Just my opinion, though, and you know what they say about opinions!

I hope your BF's stolen property is recovered!

i''m well aware of gun racks and hunting trucks. grew up with it. i also own many guns myself. in this day and age it is not responsible to leave a gun and/or ammo in a vehicle. yes, i hope they catch the person who did it.....not so that you and yours get the gun and ammo back but so that whoever stole it won''t use it to commit a crime or sell it to someone who will. my dad drummed responsible gun ownership into me and i thank him for that. so, no pity, no dust.

The gun rack is for transportation, not for storage. The locked safe is for storage.

Dust to the innocent person who gets shot with your BF''s gun.

So...if gun racks and guns left in trucks during hunting season is common where you live, maybe the thieves know that and that''s why there have been so many break-ins? Just a thought.

DF, I live in a state where there''s an active hunting season, and many of my friends are hunters. None of them store their guns and ammo in a vehicle. They use gun racks to transport them, but not to store them. I hope the police find the person who stole your BF''s gun, I really do, because I would hate for someone to be harmed with it. I also hope your BF learns a lesson about properly storing firearms from here on out.

I read in another one of your posts that your b/f is an only child, and his father passed recently. Grief can permeate one''s existence and rob one of all rationale. Granted, leaving firearms in the truck wasn''t the best decision he''s ever made, but what''s done is done. A mistake to be learned from. It''s your duty to share your story, and make others aware of the dangers of such actions. Who knows how many lives you will affect. I send you my best wishes, and really hope that more "good", than harm, comes from all this….

(A bit of perspective...it''s not like your b/f was working for the White House Secret Service. Now,there''s a breach of security. Who knew it was so gosh darn easy to crash a State dinner?
