Ok. Please feel free to speak to my like I am 5. I really don''t get this stuff and I''m too intimidated to ask on a computer website. I''ve searched the internet to no avail and Cox won''t help me because I''m looking for help with a wireless router they didn''t install. Hopefully there is a pricescoper out there who can help.

For over a year, we had a closed network using a Cox modem linked to a Linksys wireless router. As of yesterday, our network is no longer listed in the airport drop down menu (Sorry, forgot to mention that I''m on a Mac.) Our router/network (I am assuming it is ours as this as never been listed before yesterday) is now listed as "Linksys" and does not require a password. How can I make it a closed network again? I don''t remember how I initially set it up, so I can''t simply replicate the steps.

Thank you!

Why not call linksys to have them walk you through the procedure. They have a 24 hour number and if you''re within warranty(2yrs or something), they''ll help you.

Log onto your Linksys router by typing 192.168.0.1 into your browser window. If you never set up a password, I believe the default user name is blank and the default password is admin. There are settings there to 1. rename your network 2. make sure it''s not broadcasting its availability to everyone in the world (if that''s what you want) and 3. set up wep/wpa security. In order to do these things without knocking your own laptop off of the network, plug your laptop into your router whilst you''re performing these actions.

I used to have a Linksys router that I''d fight with constantly. Good luck. I don''t have Linksys anymore so I am going from memory. There are plenty o'' nice people out there in the Internets who post to forums that should be helpful if you run into issues.
