I went in today for my mammogram and sure enough, they spotted something they want a closer look at.

I have had some calcifications on one side for a while, and they have not changed, but this time the doctor said there were more of them and so we need to do a biopsy. It is going to be a stereotactic biopsy. Anyone ever had that or know about it? I am not sure what to expect.

I am sort of unhappy about it, of course. Not full on panicked but thoughtful. My mom had breast cancer so that is why I get watched so closely. I remind myself that this is why I am doing this, to find anything there is early. Whatever we are looking at is very small, too small to feel, does not show on ultrasound, just sparkeles back at the digital xray.

Technology is great, finds a lot of things. Scary too. You never know.

You''re going to be fine, I believe that.

**dust*** stay positive and optimistic!

I''m sorry. It''s been one thing after another for you recently. I hope whatever they find is benign. Thank goodness you''re pro-active about your health. Keeping you in my thoughts ...

I''m sorry Beacon! TONS of good thoughts are headed your way - I''m sure it will turn out to be nothing, and as you say, you stay on top of it so they can catch anything very early, but I can imagine how stressful it must be right now.

Sending good thoughts your way Beacon, I hope it turns out to be nothing. HUGS.

Beacon -- Blah indeed! I hope you get the "all clear" soon!

prayers outgoing!!!

Oh Beacon, dust outgoing! I''m sure you''ll be fine! Dh explained the stereotactic biopsy to me, and he said you will be in a mammogram machine that will basically map your breast to find the exact spot, and then the machine will guide the biopsy needle. Definitely high tech stuff!

Try not to worry til you find out anything for sure...lots of good healty dust coming your way
***dust dust dust***

Hang in there Beacon, I am sending you lots of dust and good thoughts!

Beacon good luck!!! And its wonderful that you are being proactive in looking after yourself with checkups due to family history.

I wish you all the best. On a side note, are you able to be tested for the cancer gene. We hear alot about this test in my circles.

Beacon, I so fully understand as I underwent a biopsy almost 4 years ago . I have microcalcifications in my left breast and I guess when they take on a certain pattern and appearance it is a flag to get checked out. I will admit the biopsy was not fun. I had to lie very still on my belly with my left breast hanging down while tissue samples were extracted and markers placed into the breast. The hardest part was waiting for the test results. Mine were fine and I am sure your will be too. Every mammogram I have had since that time shows no change.

My mom also died from breast cancer but she had a lump, which she chose to ignore until we noticed she was losing weight, etc. By that time it was too late for her. Thank goodness you go for your mammograms and are doing the biopsy. Even though it probably won't be anything just knowing you are fine takes a huge load off your mind! If you have any more questions on the procedure I would be more than happy to clue you in.

Wishing you all the best!

Hey Beacon, my thoughts go out to you. A couple of weeks ago I had my first mammogram which resulted in needing an ultrasound. It was very stressful. I almost wish they would have done a biopsy anyway, but they said they didn''t need to. I have a similar history to you. I honestly think it''s better to have the definitive tests and get on with it. It will set your mind at ease. I''m still *not* at ease, because I am second guessing the ultrasound. Good luck. It''s great you are very pro-active about this issue!

My prayers and thoughts and dust coming your way, hope all is ok.

Beacon,
I''m sorry to hear this and wish you positive thoughts. I had four biopsies done about 5 months ago. Two on each side. Laying on the table with your breasts through a hole is more uncomfortable than anything else. You won''t feel the numbing at all, you will just feel some pressure and hear a pop when the actual specimen is being taken. My procedure lasted three hours but I had four areas of concern. All was fine for me and I''m praying all will be for you as well.

Oh honey. MUCH HUGS AND BEST WISHES AND PS DUST!

hope everything turns out to be ok. tons of positive thought coming your way.

Technology is a great thing - its annoying in the fact that they fine comb everything and in the even of a small thing, they want you to come for this and that, but in a way, if there is something that isnt right, they are more able to nip it in the bud.

My positive thoughts are with you!
