Yesterday as I was driving i glanced down at my ring, it was sparkling and saw a strange line. Brought the ring up to my eye( quite the feat as I drove) and saw a crack running across the stone. My heart started thumping, as I pulled over I ran my finger across the stone.feeling a ridge.

I was crying at this point. Called my husband sobbing, he couldn't even understand me!!
He tried to calm me down saying its insured, but that didn't help.
Slowly I drove to my Daughters house ( was heading to babysit) showed her and she was as devastated as I was. Again the it's insured line.
Fast forward to after Jax is in bed... I take my ring out of the little bag I put it in and ran my finger across the stone a little bit ( a big bit) harder than before and the crack moved. Oops I thought now it comes apart. But as I lifted my finger up.... Low and behold the "crack" came too! I pulled and scratched and it all lifted up!!! It was hot glue! The ring is fine!!!!
The past few days I've been finishing up my craft pumpkins and must have accidentally gotten hot glue in my ring!!!! From now on I will take my rings off when I glue!!!!
It took me all day today looking down at my ring to reassure myself it was fine.
Attached are pics of the some of the pumpkins that caused it all!!!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Wow, I'm glad your ring is fine. Very creative you are, love the pumpkins ;)

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

WHEW!!!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Love the pumpkins...I would have freaked too but then again I might be thinking that now I can get that OEC I want :cheeky:!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Time sensitive. Realize there are those who have lost everything. Their loved ones. A diamond with glue?? Glad it came off. But to start a thread in this time, I nearly had a heart attack??

IDK, just a thought. ;))

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Kaleigh,
Sorry you thought my post was inappropriate. I am very well aware of the terrible things that have occurred in the past few days. My husbands family is rooted in the Jersey shore, my family is in the lower east side of NYC and we have a house slowly molding in Southampton NY that no one can get to.
I'm running 2 fundraisers at this time to get money and supplies to those effected by the storm at my school.
But it was a " moment" for me and I thought a jewelry forum was an ok place to post what happened.

Actually it did more than flash i actually went to the GOG website! It was about 4 hours of thinking it was cracked plenty of time to plot a new ring;) but I was really happy when that silly glue lifted off .

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

In the end, its a pretty funny story! But I can appreciate the flashes of "AAAAAaaaahhhh!!! NOOOOooooo" that run thru your mind - I'm so glad it was a string of hot glue!

You are very creative Elisateach! I love all those pumpkins - and what a wonderful effort to raise money for those hit by Sandy. :halo:

This from the one regular poster who can make a thread about anyone or anything else into something about her.

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Alright...

everybody take a deep breath and count to 10!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

I am perfectly calm. Just pointing out the ironic judgement in Kaleigh's post towards someone else's possible overreaction, which the original poster readily admitted to. But don't dare do the same to her. So she had a moment of selfish panic about her ring, it's not like Kaleigh or anyone else doesn't do the same, regardless of what's going on in the world or other parts of the country right now. It was an unnecessary judgement and yes I am making a pointed commentary about it.

Back to the point at hand:

I am glad that it was just glue, and even gladder to know that hot glue will just flake right off with no issue.

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Well...this IS a diamond forum... ;)) Whilst we symphatize and assist the needy in the aftermath of a natural disaster, it does not mean that we are not allowed to express or share a shocking personal experience. Heck , I'd be freaking out too! I'm relieved that it was only glue. I scared myself silly not too long ago in the past when I mistook the girdle reflection for a horrible crack.

I don't think I need to call attention to the panicked loupings that ensue over so much as spittle on mine...

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Oh my! I would have been just as panicked. :errrr: Thank goodness it was glue! This is definitely something you can look back on and have a good chuckle about!

I love the crafts you did, they are beautiful! :appl:

I would have panicked too! Glad it was okay. Love the pumpkins!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

I'm just glad diamonds can resist hot glue! I thought of Enerchi and her glued diamonds when I was picking it off!!!

 Yeah, there was no way my glue situation was "pick off-able" (new PS word I just made up!) You're lucky that it was hot glue not who knows what was on my stupid ring! Isn't it crazy where our minds take us when we are in panic mode??? I think that's funny that once the horror was resolved, your mind goes to another PSer!!! We will probably all think of you now, Elisateach, when we have a hot glue gun experience!!!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Nice read.

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Elisa: I'm happy your ring is whole and hearty. Your pumpkins are lovely and are a welcome bright spot in a tough time for many...

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

I'm ashamed to say that I would have been delighted for the chance to buy an AVR.

 I must confess that that kind of thought miiiiight just cross my mind as well.

Glad it was a false alarm Elisa!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Very cute pumpkins! They're adorable! And it's good to hear your precious ring was okay and nothing more than a scare ::)

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

I would have had a heart attack too! And for what it's worth, a jewelry form is a perfectly appropriate place to post something like this!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

That would have scared the heck out of me, too. I'm glad it was just a string of dried hot glue and not a real crack!

I love your pumpkins. Do you sell them, or did you make them for your own home? They're super cute.

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Oh my goodness I'm so glad it was ok!!! I would have been distraught too!
I love your pumpkins by the way! :appl:

And I'm sorry you were attacked in this thread -I don't think it was an inappropriate post at all

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

What relief you would have felt when you realized what it was and there was no real damage done! And those are very lovely pumpkins - your creativity has mine beat by several miles!

And yes, on a diamond forum I feel it is completely appropriate to post about moments of jewelry panic. 365 days each year, year after year, there are people around the world losing their homes and lives in floods, bushfires, famines, disease, drought. Technically there is no such thing as a 'good time' to post about first world problems.

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

Thank you all for your kind words. As for the pumpkins I sell them as a fundraiser for our Relay for Life team at school. And give them away sometimes too!

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've been wanting to post something but couldn't get the right words on paper.

I'm glad your ring is ok!

Re: Nearly had a heart attack....

First, what adorable pumpkins! You're so crafty! Second, I would have reacted the same exact way. I got anxiety just reading your story. I'm glad it was an easy fix for you, and thanks for the laugh. :)
