It''s national novel writing month. Is anyone here doing the 50,000 word challenge? It is day 3, so if you haven''t started you still have time. It is my first year participating. I''m up to 1090 words.

I''ve never heard of this, do you have a link??

My cousin has been doing it for something like 5 years. I''ve read some of it, and since it''s a length writing challenge, I have been less than impressed with her entries, but she gets major kudos from me for attempting it. She also plans for at least a month before.

Good luck!

My daughter loves doing this! She started participating 4 or 5 years ago. She recently had her first novel published "As You Wish" by Jackson Pearce. Her second, "Sister''s Red" will be released in June of 2010. To quote her "I''ve done Nano most years ever since, and typically write the first draft of ALL my work with the same mentality-- 2k or more a day." : )

Perhaps I will try this next year when I am capable of writing something other than journal papers for school.

How cool that your daughter is a published author! I just found her Amazon page. Looks like her book has a good rating!

Oh thank you Claritek! Yes it is very cool. Being a published author has always been her dream and we are so excited that she has achieved this and at the very young age of just 25!

My friend called me today saying she''s been hopped up on caffeine for 4 days, sleeping 3-4 hours a night and is at 10k words already lol She''s not normally a writer but apparently she has some inner stuff to purge. She''s mainly doing a memoireish type thing, slightly fictionalizing things that happened in her life and she said it''s been very cathartic. She wants me to join her.

I have a story I started writing in June - but it''s not at all a memoire, it''s a ghost story thriller type lol I had this crazy dream and woke up and wrote out about 1k words of the entire plot and outline. So all it needs is fleshing out and details which is relatively easy. I reread it today and it''s actually pretty good I think, at least the plot is logical (well as logical as that genre can be) and complete and has plenty of room to draw it out in length.

We''ll see :) I have 2 other stories I''ve been working on over the years - one is a murder mystery and the plot there is about 1/2 done, and the other is a comedy which the main story line is complete and again it needs to be flushed out. The murder mystery has the most potential in some ways - some really cool twists, but I''m not totally comfortable working in that dark environ, being in the mind of a killer so I''m not sure if I''ll ever finish that.

I just read her bio on amazon and it said something to the effect of "and her parents have grown more concerned ever since" which made me LOL - but I kinda doubt it, you don''t seem concerned, just proud :) The book ''As You Wish" sounds really fun and interesting - I want to know how it ends!!

I have to admit that I had my doubts when she went off to college to pursue an English degree! I shouldn''t have worried though, she is quite determined, knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it (read never takes no for an answer)! Actually these are the exact same traits that used to drive me crazy when she was a child!

Oh wow TLJP. How exciting for your daughter (and I''m sure you as well!). That''s exactly the driving nature and potential I see in the process. It is like any other "commitment" with a clearly defined goal of, "it doesn''t have to be good, just sit down and get something written." It can (and likely will) need to be fixed up at a later date.

Cehrabehra: It does sound like you could take something you''ve already started and jump into the pool with what you''ve got. No time like the present eh? And your friend, 10,000 words! Geesh have I got some catching up to do.
