She actually called me this afternoon, with less than good news. Apparently, it turns out that I am not "qualifed" enough. I had to stiffle a laugh. First of all, she has had my resume before the interview...meaning, she thought I was qualified enough at that time to grant me an interview. And, I promise you, my qualifications have not changed in a week! My personal feelings are that she gave me a stock answer for whatever reason...since, trust me, I am more than qualified to recruit and interview--hello, I run a freakin cosmetics company here in Chicago!
Also, I take issue with the fact that during the interview she made it seem as though she thought I would be a perfect fit. I''m all about honesty. When I hire people to work for me...I like to give them the whole story...if they aren''t right for the job, I am translucent about that fact as opposed to leaving them hanging and waiting for my reply or offer. She went so far as to tell me what health insurance carrier they use...I mean, come on, those aren''t casual facts you disclose to anyone old person you interview! At the close of the interview she also gave me a list of qualities she was looking for in a good candidate...and went on to say that I encompassed all of them! She also shared with me how all the women are "chatty Cathy''s" during the monthly meeting, and they love to get together...blah blah blah. At the time, it really felt like she was sharing with me "what to expect" and opposed to a basic job discription. Talk about mixed messages!
And, as if that wasn''t bad enough...she offered me a job as a salon manager, aka, a step backwards in my career!! I used to manage a salon--and while I enjoyed it, I have since grown within my career and have little (actually, no) interest in taking that step backwards. She even said "I know you said you didn''t want to cut hair anymore but..."....at that point I was thinking "spare me, please". Talk about a sticky situation! It was like she was saying "you''re not right for the job you want, but here is a consulation prize..."--more than anything it was mildly insulting. I was still very polite and kind, and shared with her that I was, in fact, very uninterested in moving backwards in my career as I am ambitious and looking to gain further experience, while I appreciate her thinking of me for that open position, in my opinion, I wouldn''t be a good fit there either since being a salon manager wasn''t/isn''t my goal ( ETA: you''d think a good, professional, experienced recuriter would know that...).
Anyway...thats the end of this story. Thanks again ladies for all your kindness and support, I appreciate it! Back to the drawing board for me...and by drawing board, I mean Careerbuilder!
I''m sorry to hear that you didn''t get the position, Ash. It sounds like this person isn''t the most honest type out there, so perhaps it''s best that you won''t be working with her. I hope you don''t let your disappointment discourage you from finding another great job, though!
On a completely different note--I created a thread for you over in BIW. I thought from your posts that you were somehow connected to the wedding industry in Chicago, so I was hoping you had some good recommendations, but maybe I was wrong? Do you ever work with brides? If so, I would LOVE recs from you, I live in Chicago and there are too many vendors to choose from, especially for hair and makeup!
I wish you the best of luck with your career--sending lots of fairy dust your way to find the right job!
This has just not been a great week for those seeking employment, seems to me. Ahhhhh, Career Builder. I''m sorry that your dream job didn''t come through, but the right one will come.
Sorry it didn''t go your way, Ash. I know how disappointing that can be, especially when you are not offered any constructive feedback to use to assist with any personal continuous improvement initiatives. At least it''s over. No more waiting and guessing.
You are now free to move on and find your perfect opportunity. Sometimes, I honestly believe that an employment opportunity doesn''t work out b/c it was just not meant for us ... we "think" we want it not realizing that, if we got it we wouldn''t truly appreciate the culture of the new organization etc. It sounds as though, given your appreciation of a transparent communicative environment, that this would not have been a good fit. You can do way better, given your confidence and experience. This lady just gave you a free ticket not to settle.
but you never know what the future holds for you...hopefully u''ll find something better and more in line with what you want to do in your career..good luck!
Ash - I''m sorry you didn''t get it! I know what a headache a job hunt is and when you think an interivew went great and then you get the complete opposite reaction from the employer!
I''m in the NWburbs of Chicago and just found out my posiiton is being eliminated so I''m off to search Monster and Careerbuilder. It is not fun!
Best of luck to the both of us!
