Incredible! You can''t even leave your car in your own drive way! What''s next?

Hi Everyone....

LM- you know more than the loss of the car being forced to think about this person- and what would drive someone to be driven to do such a thing.

You know there''s a series of eBay ads- showing people letting others in front of them on line, and picking up litter.
I''d like to believe that most of us are honest. Most of us would couild have no concept of how someone could act in such a way.

MA- Yes I looked at the new Vette. No question it''s the most car for the money. 400 HP - they''ve actually made the car shorter - for the first time, the Vette is shorter than the 911.
They also made improvments in the seats and interior.

But the car did not really fit me.

Then I drove 2 M3''s.
One had a 6 speed, the other an "SMG" sequential trannie. This is a clutchless car.
The SMG was clearly something that takes a lot of practice- plus, the 6 speed was simply butter.
The M# is a brute for sure. THe handling is amazing. There is a back seat- but I would not want to sit in it for more than 10 minutes- if that.
Then, if you want to drive top down without drafts you have to construct this thng to block the wind, which totally obscures what little back seat there is.

When you look at the car it''s Butch, no question. But it does not move you like looking at a purposebuilt sportscar.

Maybe it was the salesman''s bad luck that there was a Boxster parked right outside the BMW dealership.

Bottom line- I agree with whoever it was that coined the phrase

"Porsche- there is no substitute"

That''s where the BMW M Roadster came in

You''d truly be amazed by this vehicle.

Hi:

For sure. Hope there is no connection between the garage fix it guy, and car disappearance.
BTW, I say forget the Boxter and get the AM Vanquish. You won''t have enuf room for all the ladies who will fight

I''ve always said "my next car will be a Porsche", but for whatever reasons, it hasn''t happened yet. I had a private tour and test drive with a professional driver once at the factory in Stutgart. If that doesn''t make you fall in love, you''ll never love a sportscar. I almost owned one, but then we drove the M Roadster. They''ve beefed up the Boxster since then, but at the time the M Roadster had more umph.

Maybe next time. Sounds as if you are meant to go back to the Porsche dealer!

Libster:

Yes I loved the M roadster too.
The new Z4 takes a bit of getting used to where your car instantly brings a grin.

David--That TOTALLY sucks! I don''t know what I would do if anyone touched my vette OR my mercedes. Considering I live in a very small town it would be very easy to spot a yellow vette or an ''05 mercedes (Most people here drive older ones). Someone''s legs would be removed from their bodies.

By the way..I''m still drooling over those yellow diamond earrings you''ve got. And if you''re wondering which ones..it''s actually all of ''em

So sorry to hear..

Truly, there''s nothing that feels quite like a Porsche. The combination of handling and balance is exquisite. I''ve come close with my Mini, but, well.. it''s not the same *look* Haven''t driven the M-coupe (the shoe!), but have heard they''re fun, but still not a porsche. The Lexus was one sweet looking car, but the performance wasn''t there.

Best wishes in finding something to make you smile...

Don''t post much here, but I thought I should put in a word since I have been in the same situation.

A few years back someone stole and trashed my ''77 completely restored Porsche 911.... the car was stunning and I had owned it less than a year. When you have a one of a kind type car it hurts even more because you can''t replace it... be thankful that you can replace yours. With a portion of the insurance money we got an MR2 spyer- cute but not even close to the same class- and the rest was reserved for the day when we find another restored beauty.

Good luck and I feel your pain.

I was out and about in the boxster last night and thought of you (wondered what you had decided). I revved the engine for ya

Virtual high-five... So, are you thinking about a sweet ''05 Porsche-liscious set o'' hot wheels?

I don''t know John- the ''05''s look amazing in photos.
Also- the standard 05 has almost the sampe horsepower as my 01 S.
So I could save and get the base version.

BUT- you know, how many Porsche''s will I own in my life??? ( hopefully only ONE more!!!)- SO I was thinking.....How about a 3 year old Carrera 2 cabriolet- that way I can experience the 911.
I''m also nervous that if I get another Boxster, it may not live up the the memories I have of "The Squirrel" ( the car had a nick name)

The latest issue of Christophorus had a major article and photo spread on the '05 Boxster. I keep that magazine in the back office so my '04 can't smell it from the garage and get jealous. LOL about "The Squirrel." Mine is "Taz" (Warner Bros fan?)

Of course your natural progression should be the eventual Carrera.

However don't limit yourself. I don't know how old you are, but I'm planning to have another Boxster upgrade or 2 before getting into my sweet Carrera GT (come on baby!), which will be my transition-to-retirement ride, which will segue into my purchase of the obligatory Winnebago. By that time maybe they will have produced the Porsche "Seniora" turbo tour bus.

Well, that's the plan, anyway

Now lop...You KNOW that would imply a family.

[tugging nervously at collar a la Rodney Dangerfield]

Is it hot in here? 'Cuz my gettin'-married feet are cold right now.

yep, sorry ...I guess that would imply such a thing....

. I guess one could choose to bypass that step..... but, the SUV has also proven to be useful for home depot runs -- even for the bachelor! I think the SUV has a place in everyone''s life evolution -- family or no family

lol. No worries

... Actually I am an SUV guy as well, cruising in the "almost for sure" lane, and preparing to prepare to consider the propable potential e-ring purchase of my own someday sooner possibly maybe perhaps than later.

[display of compulsory waffling]

THEY FOUND IT!!!!!

Yesterday my car was located ( thank you LOJACK)

The detective told me that the car is in perfect condition.
The theif left it parked on the street, doors locked.

I hope to be re-united this evening- after the NYPD "dusts the car for prints" ( I feel like Columbo or something)

YAY!!!!!

To all who offered consolation- THANK YOU!!!!!!!

David, great news!
Many prayers were answered.

Now here's hoping that ALL checks out well... Make SURE you have your most trusted mechanic get all over it like you would a diamond! Here's hoping for no thief-incurred "inclusions" in your flawless-mobile.

ok John, you are redefining waffle here! If you would like help selecting the stone, I''m sure there are a few people here who will give you advice! And if you need proposal ideas, gentle pushing, or just a general nudge in the right direction, check here again.

David-

I am so happy for you that they found it...I also hope that it is in the same condition as when it was taken. Except for maybe a full tank of premium gas now.

Here''s a very nice story.
First- the NYC Police Department must be commended.
They found the car using Lojack.
Whoever found it decided that a tow was definately not the way to treat The Squirrel. A flat bed was called in.
Then, instead of gaining entry by breaking a window, the detective in charge deciided to wait till they could reach me to see if I had another set of keys.

I brought the keys down to the DA''s office last nigth around midnight.

This detective ( let''s call him Mcloud- no, Magnum, no Dan Tana, no Honey West- NO)
Anyway this detective personally supervised the examination of the car, and everything is there!
Twp pairs of RayBans- my hats and special neck warmers- all there!

Anyway- I''m positively giddy! See how you can turn a frown upside down
