My poor Mom...

I feel so bad for your mom. I check this string regularly and keep hoping for a 'good news' update!

If you have some RB options, you know the kind souls on PS will guide you to the right stone - just specify budget and parameters and let the magicians do their work! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Dust!

I like the idea of the vacuum cleaner and panty-hose trick!
Has she had a go of that?

Cheap, easy on the old knees, and sounds really effective...

I hope it all works out for the best...

If only you could see my parent's house. Log cabin with two lofts, some carpeted rooms, some brick floors, some concrete with stone edges..... Not an easy vaccum! I talked to her briefly today and she didn't say anything. So it's not been found. She's also had my niece for the last two days-my sister is leaving tomorrow to move where her husband got a job a few months back and that has mom tore up as well... I dont think she's had time to REALLY look. I may ask my SIL to help. She's right down the road.

On a bright note, I've found a couple replacement options. Not exactly my perfect ideal, but in budgetnfor what can be done right now. I really need her to get it to the jeweler to confirm MM size for the stone.

Thanks for the continued well wishes and tips!!

UPDATE:

I found a vintage wedding set on Ebay a couple of weeks ago with a 35 pt center stone that looked quite similar to the stone Mom had. I bought it and when it came, the stone was beautiful! So sparkly and so similar to hers. I dropped off her ring at my jeweler yesterday. They're going to replace the head on her ring and set the stone from the vintage piece. I'm going to have the diamond wedding band that came with the Ebay set sized for her right hand, so she gets a second ring out of the deal. The Ebay e-ring has a lovely illusion head and two side stones. Eventually, I'm going to get a nice little colored stone and have it set in that ring and sized for me, but that's down the road.

The best part of all this is that her ring will be done next Friday! They're also going to buff and polish all the scratches out and make it look as pristine as possible. I am so excited!!! She is thrilled as well and cannot wait to get it back. I'm going to do a SMTR thread for her revamped ring when it get it back. It's a really sweet vintage set.

I'm sorry the stone hasn't been found but yay for a new one!!! And who knows, the original diamond may decide to show itself one day :)

Can't wait to see the pictures :)

Hey April, that's a great ending to a miserable story! So glad you could find something reasonable and close to what the original was! Wonderful!!!
I'm sure she's still bummed it was lost but this is so sweet of you to do for her - such a sweet daughter! :appl: hopefully you can post a photo before it goes back to mom....

April, you're a peach of a daughter! Your mom must be nuts about you. I am too, just for what a sweetheart you are to her. So glad she'll be happy with the new stone & all is well in the end. The lost one might pop up any time, especially when she's not looking for it. Looking forward to seeing your pics!

Yay I can't wait to see pictures!!

That is so awesome April! I am so glad you were able to find her a lovely stone! I hope you will come back with pictures of your find.

How awful she lost it but I am glad you found a nice replacement. I hope you find the original stone some day.

I knocked a dish of lose gems stones on our carpet and I found using a flashlight with the lights off showed the gems the best.

Get a matching transitional, drop it into her carpet or someplace, vacuum the house, cut the bag open and find the lost diamond! Of course if the first one is in there too then it will seem like the vacuum is magic!

That is so nice.
My mom loses her diamonds a lot.
Just before Thanksgiving she lost an earring that was 65 points. I wish I had known the vacuum cleaning trick then--I think the earring is gone forever.
she has cleaning ladies in and out, too, which doesn't help. Her usual one is very trustworthy but every once in a while she gets someone else--last summer one cleaned her OUT-- stole everything in the jewelry box. Fortunately I had just been to visit and she had given me all the gold she wasn't wearing, and she was wearing her really nice pieces, so they weren't in the jewelry box.
she lost the stone in her e-ring probably 40 years ago, that's the one I mind the most, I would have like that to stay in the family even if my sister got it and not me...
Of course she's not insured.

too funny!

I just picked up Mom's ring from the jeweler and it looks absolutely AMAZING!!!! Honestly, I think it looks better than before! I am so so thrilled!!!! The new head is definitely different, but shows the diamond off more than the old head did. It's also been completely cleaned and polished. I was worried she'd lost some small side stones- it was so filthy I honestly couldn't tell if they were there or not- but they are there!

As soon as I can get outside this afternoon I am going to take some pics and will post a thread in SMTB.

Oh, and I sold the e-ring we liberated the stone from to the jeweler for scrap and got $120 for it! That's nearly half of what I paid for the entire set on Ebay and it paid for all the labor to repair her ring and size the w-band from the Ebay set. I basically only paid for the new platinum head! Steal!

That's great news April! I guess from a bad situation, it turned out pretty good in the end! Have you given it to her yet? Can't wait to hear what she things - and yes, hurry out and post some pics... we are NOT a patient crowd

Steal of a deal is right - great stuff that it wasn't as pricey as expected. To top all of this off, would be to find the original diamond - maybe it could happen still...

Nice deal! Glad it worked out :)

BTW we need pics :)
