We never answer our home phone, and I mean never. If you do answer the phone, and you don''t want them to call anymore, you can ask to be taken off their call list.
We have cell phones, and everyone who knows us knows those numbers, so we''re not missing anything by ignoring our home phone. I really want to drop it, but DH thinks we need it for some reason.
D&T, the Do Not Call list doesn''t apply to nonprofits/charities -- they can still call even if you''re on the list. Best way is to answer and ask to be taken off the list -- better yet, send a request in writing to the organization telling them not to call you anymore. If you specifically ask them not to call, they have to stop or they''re in violation of the law.
I do not answer. Our satellite service for our TV puts the caller ID up on the TV so we don''t even bother getting up. Another thing that we do is program numbers into our telephone with different ringers. That way if it doesn''t have a special ring we know there is no need to answer it.
I just answer and ask to be removed from their list.
The worst one is the so-called Sheriff''s dept. asking for
money for a children''s Christmas fund - ugh!
Same as Haven, we NEVER answer the home phone. We let it go to answering machine and call back the people we want to talk to. Anyone we really want to talk to has our cell number.
Thank you everyone! It is especially annoying now that I''m home on my disability retirement and have to listen to the phone ring all day and half the night!
