OMG -- this is so much to process right now! My husband is on the phone as I''m writing this, and he''s speaking with the recruiter to negotiate salary. It was supposed to be a 3 month contract and then the company could have decided to extend the contract after that. It turns out, they''re offering him a full time, permanent position.

So, it looks like we''re moving! Well, actually, he''s moving. I''m staying here until I find a job of my own. But yay!

Congrats Zoe! Great news!

Did you decide what to do about your house?

Congratulations Zoe, that is wonderful news. You will be near Tacori too right???

Thanks TGal and Linda! I haven't had a chance to log in and post in the thread I started last week, but I will. It's been a busy week.

So about the condo -- now that my husband has a job, we won't be able to do a short sale. I wasn't comfortable with the idea of doing that anyway, since we weren't THAT strapped yet. We'd love to get out from under the payments but we didn't want to have our credit scores tank. We're not in dire need of doing a SS or a foreclosure, and we'd want to do everything possible not to get in that situation.

It looks like we're going to try to rent our condo out and I'll have to move in with my parents. It's very unlikely that I will be able to find a teaching position for the fall. If that's the case, I'll stay up here, work through the school year, and then try again for the following year. I really, really don't want to have to move back home, but we won't be able to afford to pay our mortgage AND rent an apartment or condo down in Charlotte. The bad part is that we won't be able to get the same amount in rent as what our mortgage payment is, so we'll have to kick in some.

Linda -- yes, we'll be near Tacori and Princesss, and somewhat near DS.

Congratulations, Zoe! That''s awesome news!

That''s brilliant news! Congrats to your DH and I hope that you find something there soon.

Zoe I''m so happy to hear your news!!

Yes, Linda, I will be close to Tessa. I''d love to meet her someday!

Thanks Tacori! I think we''ll celebrate by going out for a nice dinner this weekend. It''s been so long since we did something like that. Actually, since my husband will be working now on our first anniversary and we won''t be in the area any longer, we may go to our wedding venue for dinner. We''ll see. Hey, thanks for the name of those apartments!

Thanks Lliang and Selkie! It''s overwhelming to think of all that needs to be done now, but stress can be a good thing, right? Right?!

Thank you Bee and HH! I''m going to start sending out applications as soon as I finish getting letters of recommendation and the other certification paperwork completed. We keep thinking of all the different places we can check out. There''s so much that we haven''t seen!

Congrats Mr. Zoe! I hope you can follow soon!!!

Congrats to you and your dh Zoe!
Sounds like NH is losing a great teacher, but that NC is gaining one

Congrats on the good news! Hope everything works out for you!

Re: your condo. Rental agencies take care of everything. Not only take the payments, but also do a criminal background check and make sure the tenants are stable. Have you checked to see how many units your HOA permits to be rented out at a time?

Thanks Neatfreak and iluv!

What a sweet comment, iluv!

ETA: Thanks MC! We're going to contact our property management company who takes care of our complex, and we're going to see if they'd be able to act as our landlords. I know most of the units in our small complex are owner-occupied. We'll find out additional info tomorrow hopefully. I have no idea what type of fee they may charge to do this though. My parents live close by and there's a slight chance that they'd be willing to take care of it for us if the property management co. charges too much. My parents have an in-law apt. that they currently rent out, so they're familiar with being landlords. Of course, their current renter is perfect (a real handyman who has done a lot for them around the house), so they've been quite lucky.

Great news, Zoe! Hope you find a job in NC soon... so you''re not parted from your hubby for long at all!

You''ll be neighbors with Tacori and Tessa!!

Maybe they can act as landlords and have the "handyman" do work as needed in the interior of your condo! Be sure to ask for a large deposit and first and last. If the unit will rent out for $800 a month, the minimum that a potential renter should pay to move in is $2400!

YAY!!!!

Thanks Fisher, SDL, and Princesss!

MC -- we''ll make sure we get a good chunk of change before anyone moves in. That''s a good idea about seeing if my parents'' renter can help out around here too. My parents haven''t raised his rent in a long time because he keeps doing stuff around the house for them. He''s a fantastic tenant, and my parents have said that he''s the last one they''ll have. They''ve been very lucky over the years.

Princesss -- I''m sure I''ll have more questions about the area as time goes on. Would you mind if I got in touch with you and picked your brain?

SDL -- I''m a huge fan of living in New England, and I''ll miss it SO MUCH, but we need to go where the jobs are. In this case, one of us may go, but we''ll figure it out. We''re excited to try NC though. It''s something different and it will probably be a good idea to branch out a little.

Fisher -- who knew a year ago that we''d be in this situation? It''s funny how things work out. Even if we''re apart for next school year, we''ll probably rack up miles flying back and forth when we get the chance.

NOW, does anyone have any survival tips for a 35 year old married girl who will most likely move back in with mom and dad? Yeah, I''m not looking forward to that!

Congrats Zoe (and hubby)! NC sounds great for you! Hopefully you can manage living with your parents for a while.

I remember when I had to move back in temporarily with my parents, my social life picked up a lot! I suddenly found a million reasons be busy outside of the house.

Yay Zoe! No more bitter winters for you! NC has great schools, they will be lucky to have you! A friend teaches in Charlotte and really loves her school. She says less of the bureaucratic nonsense of up here, and with easier/less stressful testing for the kids. Horrible that we have to think like that in an NCLB world. Have you found out about reciprocity? I''m so excited for you! Have you taken the Praxis? It is not hard, just register soon if you haven''t yet. Hey, you could get a job in the fall, people retire, get knocked up, life happens and you are awesome!

Just found this:

* Step 6:

Sit back and relax!

That is easy peasy compared to the hoops you have already jumped through for certification!
My dream has been for a few years to move to NC in the Raleigh area, anything to get away from the snow and traffic (they complain about traffic down south but they have NO IDEA what it is like with the Big Dig).
Hugs to you Zoe! and your DH, well done getting a permanent position!

Congrats Zoe!

Congrats, Zoe!! We will miss you here in New England, but I am sooo happy for you and your husband!

Congratulations Zoe!!! I''m in NC also - only 2 hours from Charlotte! I went to school at UNCC though, and have family there I see a lot - I love it there!!

NC is in dire need of some great teachers - I don''t think you''ll have much of a problem. Just be aggressive with it - my FI works for the State also, and even the teachers (who they try their best to protect and give raises to even when the rest of us are getting salary reductions) are feeling the crunch. All the salaries have recently been reduced by 0.5% to try to balance the state budget. The sucky part is that they''re doing it over the next 3 paychecks - so whatever 0.5% works out to be of your annual salary is being taken out of only 3 paychecks. (Wonderful for those of us on budgets!
38.gif
) Just wanted you to be aware as you start the search. It doesn''t affect overall salaries - they don''t reduce by 0.5%. Just the upcoming paychecks are being reduced. Salaries stay the same. I just want you to be aware of the stupid situation state employees are being put in right now. In "return" for the pay reduction, they get 10 hours of furlough time off (unpaid). There are more bills in the House right now for more furloughs. I don''t think that affects teachers, though - they tend to treat them better, haha, since many have left due to terrible packages already. So if you''re aggressive with it, get everything you can!!

Raleigh is great!! That''s where I am. As long as you know when to not drive up or down I-40 (rush hour, only in one direction at a time) you''re fine. The traffic is annoying sometimes, but I''d NEVER want to try traffic up north. We''ve taken trips up there, and it was IN-SANE. Don''t know how yall do it sometimes!

It''s the same in Charlotte - just learn when to not drive the certain directions with rush hour, and you''ll normally never have a problem (accidents being the exception, of course).

Congrats Zoe!! I echo the others in that you never know about getting a teaching job. I was hired in August for my current job!

Good luck!!
