It is heartbreaking. Our Medical Professional who took care of my boys when they were preemies in the hospital, is one of the parents who lost their daughter in this tragedy. My heart hurts for them. I am for sure hugging my boys extra. Hugs to all the parents out there.

The Hangout thread is pretty antagonistic - we're all on the same side of no-more-killing-kids-for-the-love-of-god, but I'm glad this one is here as an alternative, since we all have some deeply different visions of how to go about that.

I just can't stop thinking of how scared those poor kids must have been. Or of how desperate their teachers must have been to save them. This has been my worst nightmare since I read about the Polytechnique shootings, the first year I taught. This, the first year as a parent? It just adds a new dimension to the horror.

Oh Skippy, I am so sorry about their loss. So terribly heartbreaking.

Circe, I keep thinking about how scared they must have been as well. I cannot get it out of my mind when I think of those poor little ones who were just starting their lives. And all the people they have yet to touch that now they never will and all the children they would have had that now will never be born. And the teachers that did their best to protect them but ultimately were unable to against the madman who was on a killing rampage. My heart and soul cries for them, their families and their loved ones.

It's just so awful and sad. I'm so ANGRY that these sweet children had their whole lives ahead of them and they should still be here if it weren't for the unspeakable acts of this sick person. And heartbroken for their parents and families.

Me too. I had to stop watching the news this weekend b/c I just keep crying and feeling angry and hopeless and scared. We haven't told B about this yet and now I am worried that he's going to hear about it at school...

I posted this on your other thread, but we do not watch the news. It's filled with too much negativity. Also, inbetween the horror stories, are commercials about RX and their side effects and my kids will stop what they are doing and start asking questions about that stuff. TV, in general, is quite hopeless.

It's just a sad, sad situation that I think many of us can't get out of our heads. I don't watch the news either. I do read CNN periodically but their coverage is so sensationalized and, along with most outlets, extremely inaccurate in the early stages of this story.

I think what's especially difficult about a tragedy like this is that you just can't wrap your head around it. And...my mind gets carried away just wondering how scared those poor children must have been and why anyone would ever feel as though they should carry out an act like this. And the parents and siblings etc. who are just empty...it all is really beyond me.
